Who's the better skater and puck handler? If Kulikov is better, I certainly hadn't noticed. Gardiner is a fine player that is having trouble fitting into Carlyle's system. The same system that a lot of good players have trouble with. If he was with a loosey-goosey coach, he'd be a star already.
If this rumour has any legs to it at all, it's a one for one swop. I'd bet on it. Same as the JVR-Schenn deal. Two players with great upside going somewhat stagnant on their teams.
They both have a long way to go in their development, and I'd guess if there is a deal to be made, it will be straight up. I'd be surprised if TOR gave up more then a 3rd on top of it. Either way, TOR isn't the only one sniffing around.
You're probably right about it being a one for one swap...they're both mid first round picks, about a year apart just, all things considered they're very close in value.
Dmitri Kulikov is good young defenceman playing for Florida Panthers. I don't know why Florida Panthers would like to trade Dmitri Kulikov? They are not very good team, and they need good young defencemen. Maybe trade for skillful young scorer?
Kulikov isn't an OFD, it's a big misconception anymore. He was drafted as an OFD but his offense hasn't really developed at the NHL level. He is capable of putting up 25-30 in mostly assists. His slap-shot is very poor, and his wrist shot is decent, when he chooses to use it (Which is rarely). He's an average 2nd pairing dman at best in my opinion.
