Sounds like they'd even take Delmore off our hands. They need immediate help due to injuries. This might be a chance to get a decent return Zhitnik.
The paper added that Sather stayed off the ice yesterday as he, assistant general manager Don Maloney and vice president of hockey administration Peter Stephan made numerous calls to general managers, agents and scouts in an effort to bolster the Rangers' injury-depleted defense corps prior to tonight's game against the Flyers at the Garden (7:30pm et/4:30pm pt).
Flyers: We need blueliners

The Flyers thought they could get by. Now general manager Bob Clarke tells the Inquirer that he must trade for a defenceman.
It was bad enough losing Eric Desjardins for two months to a broken arm, but the team has learned that Marcus Ragnarsson has a sprained rotator cuff in his left shoulder. Both were hurt during Saturday's 4-0 win in Toronto. "We're going to get somebody; I don't know who yet," Clarke told the paper. "I talked to a lot of teams. There are a few guys around. Mostly, what you are talking about right now is a stopgap guy. No one has come out [offering] a top-four defenseman yet. I don't know if that will happen. Then you are talking a different ball game."
Since Delmore can't play, I figure that it doesn't matter a whole lot.
The guy is a big lugnut that might be able to develop into a tough 6th or 7th defenseman ala Eric Cairns of the Isles. He'd be worth rolling the dice on, IMO.
Especially if all it costs is a guy that recently cleared waivers and is getting paid $1 million to play on the Amerks.
Eh, I'm usually pretty wary of trades of the "well it can't get any worse" variety. If State can actually help the Sabres (though it would obviously be in a limited role), sure go for it. Otherwise I'd be happy to take a pick back for Delmore. I guess I'm a bit like Regier in my line of thinking here.
Z won't be dealt much before deadline day. When and if he goes, the blueline will be depleted and I don't expect to get an impact roster player in return. If he's moved soon, we'll receive a few more bets in the Ovechkin derby but it's just not smart from an organizational standpoint...essentially cashing it in this early. The casual fan will walk. Assuming he goes, what do you got for 05???
