Sather: Rangers seek two defencemen

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp...56&hubName=nhl

Sounds like they'd even take Delmore off our hands. They need immediate help due to injuries. This might be a chance to get a decent return Zhitnik.
Quote:
The paper added that Sather stayed off the ice yesterday as he, assistant general manager Don Maloney and vice president of hockey administration Peter Stephan made numerous calls to general managers, agents and scouts in an effort to bolster the Rangers' injury-depleted defense corps prior to tonight's game against the Flyers at the Garden (7:30pm et/4:30pm pt).

I could certainly see the Rags being interested in Z and maybe even Delmore. And I could also see them "overpaying." Maybe Lampman or Baranka + 1st??

More likely they'll end up with a guy like Gonchar. It'll cost them much less...

Flyers are looking for defensive help as well.

Flyers: We need blueliners
Jan. 20 @ 9:59 AM
The Flyers thought they could get by. Now general manager Bob Clarke tells the Inquirer that he must trade for a defenceman.
It was bad enough losing Eric Desjardins for two months to a broken arm, but the team has learned that Marcus Ragnarsson has a sprained rotator cuff in his left shoulder. Both were hurt during Saturday's 4-0 win in Toronto. "We're going to get somebody; I don't know who yet," Clarke told the paper. "I talked to a lot of teams. There are a few guys around. Mostly, what you are talking about right now is a stopgap guy. No one has come out [offering] a top-four defenseman yet. I don't know if that will happen. Then you are talking a different ball game."

Given the talk about adding players from the Buffalo area and the need for both big, creaseclearers and right sided defensemen, how about Delmore for........

Not anymore. They've acquired Slegr, Markov and Timander.

I think he misread the Article. Those are players that are no longer availble.

I was wondering if I missed out on a Rangers-Bruins deal.

Since Delmore can't play, I figure that it doesn't matter a whole lot.

The guy is a big lugnut that might be able to develop into a tough 6th or 7th defenseman ala Eric Cairns of the Isles. He'd be worth rolling the dice on, IMO.

Especially if all it costs is a guy that recently cleared waivers and is getting paid $1 million to play on the Amerks.

Eh, I'm usually pretty wary of trades of the "well it can't get any worse" variety. If State can actually help the Sabres (though it would obviously be in a limited role), sure go for it. Otherwise I'd be happy to take a pick back for Delmore. I guess I'm a bit like Regier in my line of thinking here.

Z won't be dealt much before deadline day. When and if he goes, the blueline will be depleted and I don't expect to get an impact roster player in return. If he's moved soon, we'll receive a few more bets in the Ovechkin derby but it's just not smart from an organizational standpoint...essentially cashing it in this early. The casual fan will walk. Assuming he goes, what do you got for 05???

KALININ--?
MCKEE--?
TALLINDER--?

Please console me.

if the season keeps going like its going, hopefully you can add cam barker to that list

and trading zhitnik to the ranger$ in january is going in enrage a lot of fans
dealing out west is one thing, dealing to a team the sabres are directly competing with for a playoff spot is another

if they want Delmore and zhitnik, i would be happy to take Lundmark of their hands.

JB, i see you mention Jeff state, what's his potential and were was he picked?!

delmore for him, no matter what his potential, 6th or 7th even, would be a bonus. even if it just helps Rochester!

Jeff was an undrafted free agent pick up.

He's split time between the AHL and the ECHL the last couple of years.

His upside probably isn't that great. I just threw something out there as I think getting a used puck bag in return for dumping Delmore's contract would be a good thing right now.

He's headed towards getting non-tendered over the summer so even "future considerations" would work for me.
