Playing Corvo more didn't work did it? Didn't even get a point. Could have played Wiercioch more if you needed offense.

Corvo's been playing a lot better than Wiercioch. I can't believe there's people here mad about Corvo's ice time. The only D who have consistently outplayed him are Karlsson and Methot. Maybe Phillips.

I was at the game.

We didn't play all that badly. Detroit certainly didn't play all that better than they did when we beat them both times previously.

It comes down to gift-wrapping a goal or two to the other team every game, and an anemic PP.

Game cast

http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/gamecast?gameId=400484647

We didn't give up that many in close scoring chances again (outside of the 2 breakaways on the PP) but the % that ends up in our net is way too high compared on our own converting ratio

Sometimes our goalies haven't been good compared to the opposition, sometimes we give up easy goals by being caught totally out of position or like tonight, 2 very awful line changes (I hate those), or the PK isn't working, etc.

The team isn't playing as bad as people are saying but they seem to lose focus there and there and other teams capitalize on it. This is NHL, teams can make you pay a heavy price for those mistakes. Biggest difference with last year (outside of Andy's play) is that the team find (new) ways to lose instead of ways to win (tonight 2 bad line changes against goals, sometimes too many PP goals against, sometimes weak goaltending, sometimes lose momentum because PP sucks, sometimes lack of secondary scoring (you won't win many games when only 1 line score), etc. Inconsistent young budget team

Karlsson

Wiercioch
Boro

Cowen
Corvo

For the love of God, Corvo played 3rd most minutes tonight and he was supposed to be a 7th PP specialist exclusively.

Our forwards have been fine. We can solve out the chemistry and need for wingers internally. Defense we need external help.
I don't agree... Forwards have been a big problem, if not our biggest problem this year IMO

The Turris line has been awesome most of the time so not them but the rest.

Spezza and Michalek have been good in spurts, really need much more from them. Their biggest problem seems to be battling along the boards, forechecking and positioning.

Smith has been excellent, but only has 6 points. He's a depth forward

Conacher has been good too (yeah I don't really care of the popular views on this board as you can tell lol), but not getting much of an opportunity so not producing a lot (reminds me of Regin). Seems to be suffering from a sophomore slump as well and a transition to a more responsible defensive game

Zibanejad has been good but he's 20 y/o, so much he can do

Problem is we only have 1 line with great or good chemistry, resulting in many problems like missing assignments on the defensive side of things, not giving enough clear cut open lanes for breakouts and not cycling long enough. Also, lack of secondary scoring. All this puts more pressure on our young inexperienced defense and make them work a lot more than they should

Note : Corvo should be dressed every game.

Well, nothing is really surprising on HF. Plenty of good posting, but there's unfortunately the reverse of the medal lol

Also, it makes you wonder with what kind of eyes people are watching the game? Too much beer or what? Sometimes, judgments are made on 1 play. Like they remember a mistake player X made that pissed them off = player X sucked! It's that simple I think.

It's the defense I'd like to see for now :

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen/Wiercioch-Corvo
Phillips-Borowiecki
Gryba

Let Cowen and Wiercioch compete for game/ice time. Other pairs are ok and I think Corvo is still a decent player. We need his veteran presence at the least.

It's too bad about the poor line changes (if that's what we want to call it) that led to 2 goals against.

Miller's first goal seemed like the result of none of the forwards getting back in time to pick up the trailer, and his second started out with Zmitty, Boro and Corvo trying to corral Helm after being out there for more than a minute, and losing him, and then losing sight of anybody else.

It really does seem like players are taking turns dropping the ball at times, and the puck generally ending up in our net.

And that says a lot about the team's current predicament.

as the season goes on, we really need to get on a very long winning streak

and as this game was the closure for Alfie + the fans, it's for me too.

As much as all sides acted poorly, i'll remain in Alfie's camp and feel sympathy for Murray. Anytime I watch the Wings, as much as I want Alfie to not succeed, it's impossible to not cheer for him. I screamed in a high pitched voice when Alfie scored vs the Sabres, and I await the day 11 is retired.

1000 games with one team is special, and I hope Phillips does what Alfie ultimately didn't do, which is to play his entire career with our team.

So what are the positive things then?

Zibanejad is a young gun with a lot of years in head of him - and as of right now playing pretty good.

EK do not play the best D, but still young enough to develop in that department and his offensive game is what he do best so let him do that.

Lehner is a bit inconsistent but he will be a fine nr 1 in the years thats coming.

....btw if this team could learn how to shut down the other team it would not be so bad - we are not a goal scoring machine but playing better D would make a big difference. Playing D is team effort - and it does not matter how skilled you are as a player if don't work your zone/man. We end up in spots we should not be in and are net is an open target for the other team. Some got damn awareness of where you should be on the ice is needed and that is coaching!

You find a lot of that online. Whenever you see somebody purporting to be "logical" or "rational", as though logic or rationality were some scarcely found commodity that only he/she possessed, when in fact all they have is an opinion just like everyone else. Whenever you see somebody heaping shame on, or being "embarrassed" on the behalf of, others for, again, a difference of opinion. "I'm not like those idiots. Those children. No true Scotsman... er... I mean Sens fan would behave in such a way." It goes on and on.

let me guess... He also needs two top 6 wingers to play with as well. I just thought of the best comparison. Spezza is like Brendan Morrisson. If he would get 2 top 6 wingers like Naslund and Bertuzzi Spezza would be able to put up 100 points a year... And that's what happened with Heatley and Alfie. Take away the real skilled players on the line and your left with the worst player of the 3. Slow, lazy, heartless Spezza.

Hahahahhahaha overpaid loser.

Just because he is struggling now doesn't mean you can discredit everything he has done previous to this season.

Players who have had career years playing with Spezza:

Every regular winger he has ever had, save maybe Havlat pre-lockout?

He deserves the flak he is getting now, but the revisionist history is over-the-top.

Same thing with Anderson... what have you done for me lately? I guess that's the nature of pro sports and the idiots who follow them.

I think it was supposed to have some sort of reverse-karma effect but in reality some of them are probably just showing their true colours.

I obviously wasn't at the game, however I didn't think we played all that badly either. Started off strong, our powerplay sucked (and in the end that hurt us), and a defensive gaff from the team (or poor change) created a scoring chance. Sort of the way the season has gone this year.

What's interesting is that we drew penalties from some aggressive skating.

Something to build on, I hope.

Of course, we gave up that breakaway and a few 2 on 1s.

Oh well.

I like this guy:

Analysis of all 3 goals yesterday, all caused by bad line changes (and Boro/Smith's hilarious defending on that 3rd goal).

This, this and this!!!!

MacLean said the Sens has 4 shots on goal on 4 PPs, unacceptable.

MacLean talked about the line change issue in his post game chat. seems the players are just not mentally with it.

Not sure where Boro's mind was at on that play, pretty sad.
