Vasiliev intrigues me, one of the yougest D men (like 4 guys his age and below) playing regularly in the KHL.
I'd say Wilcox is the teams best defender. Was their best defender as a 18 yr old also. I don't know what he will be but honestly I think he is underrated quite abit. Mind you I have seen him play alittle and honestly reminds me of Coburn. Smooth skater who uses the stick well and can position well. Doesn't hit hard or a lot but makes it up with his skating skills. Plays in all situations for Cornell. One of those players were he could have a chance at being a regular due to him having no real glaring weakness other than he isn't a offensive defender. Now not saying he is amazing in all other areas but when you watch him it is hard to pick out what he isn't good at. Does everything right.

Great news... the kid has been lights out and deserves every shot of it. He's gonna be a top-6er for us. This is a great opportunity for us, although it's a shame Morin wasn't invited, I havent followed him much this year but sounds like he hasn't been turning any heads.

Nurse didn't make it--I doubt Morin ever had a real shot.

I think Morins year has been pretty decent from his and the Flyers perspective... showing his offensive production at the end of last year was not a fluke. But he has had his inconsistencies defensively seemingly. But even if he had been very good it would be hard to get into the final roster...

Dumba
Reinhart
Pelech
Pouliot
Severson

are all the year older, most first round picks.

Bigras I am surprised at getting on the team tbh, but he looked very good in Avs camp from what I heard.
Morrissey has played really well.
Ekblad is a once every 10 years talent at D (not saying he will live up to it.)

Then even after these guys there are:

Nurse
Koekkoek
Ceci (not sure if would have been released.)
Pulock
Bowey
Theodore
Matheson
Finn
Heatherington

quite a few of them are the year older as well, and Morin is probably in that kind of range.

There are probably 20 guys on D this year who would be picks for most teams who are not Canada. All the 17 guys + Morin I listed are 1st of 2nd rounders I believe. (apart from Pelech... and Ekblad who will be top 2 most likely.)

2012 Draft:
Round 1: Laughton- Top 10 player in the OHL. Probably a middle 6 Center.
Round 2: Stolarz- Maybe be the best Goalie in the OHL. Could be a #1 goalie.
Round 3: Gostisbehere- Top 5 player in the NCAA. Proabably a 2nd pairing offensive defenseman.
Round 4: Larsson- Best stache in the USHL.
Round 4: Leier- Maybe a top 10 player in the WHL. Probably a versitile middle 6 winger.
Round 5: Willcox- Top defender on his NCAA team at 18-19 year old. Depth defenseman at best.
Round 7: Vasiliev- One of the youngest defenseman playing full time in the KHL. Probably a depth defenseman.

We could realistically end up with a 2nd line center, a 3rd line winger, a #3 defenseman, a #6 defeseman, and a starting goalie from this draft.

What's Leier's chances of actually making the team?

There's a few guys I haven't really heard of (Anderson, Girard), so i'm thinking he actually has a pretty good shot. Being a versatile type of player should help him/

It depends how they shape their roster. They have to get down to 23 players. Griffin Reinhart has to miss the first three games due to a suspension that carries over from last year so I would expect them to take 8 defensemen. With 8 defensemen & 2 goalies that leaves 13 forwards.

I don't know much about Girard but just reading the prospects boards he came off as a bit of a surprise to some there. Anderson has been one of the London Knights best players this year so far (better than Domi).

I think Leier will make it as a 4th liner or the extra forward spot but who knows for sure. He has a legit shot at making it though IMO.

I can't wait to see Gostisbehere firing off point shots like that when arrives. It'll be the first time since probably Dan McGillis that the Flyers have had a defenseman with a booming shot from the point. Also, what a smooth skater. He's got such a good set of wheels. I see the Erik Karlsson comparison from that standpoint. Maybe it's just me, but it looks like he's filled out a little more as well. He seems to be a little thicker in the upper body.

London Knights have their own behind-the-scenes series called Quest for the Cup. They have aired two episodes and those have been pretty interesting to watch. Here are the links for the episodes

Episode 1
Episode 2

If you don't have time or don't want to watch the whole episodes, here are the parts where Stolarz is playing, talking etc.
Episode 1
16:50-18:10
20:25-25:20
34:55-36:05

Episode 2
10:55-17:45
23:10-24:30
34:25-40:40

There are some other clips where you can see him for a second, but I found those to be the best ones and a worth of sharing.

Tuesday morning sarcasm? Pronger had a bomb from the point. It was always low and accurate. I wish he pull aside some of our current players and teach them how to actually hit the net from the point.

I'm not saying Pronger didn't have a bomb from the point. I'm saying that Daniel McGillis had an even bigger bomb from the point. When I think of point men, I think of guys like Al MacInnis or Zdeno Chara. McGillis had a point shot that was of that caliber. Might not have been as accurate as Pronger was (Pronger's point shot was ridiculous accurate), but certainly much harder than Pronger's.

I watch that video of Gostisbehere and he's got that booming point shot like a MacInnis or a Chara. That's the point I was trying to make.

I'd second this. Pronger didn't have the shot speed where he could regularly beat a good goalie unscreened; he excelled more at accuracy.

So 5'11", 170 lb. Gostisbehere who's never played an NHL game has a point shot like three Hall of Fame defensemen that have 647 goals between them, and are 6'9", 6'6", and 6'2"? Jesus.

Ghost can get a shot of pretty quick and it's powerful considering his size. If you watch his offense it looks a lot like Lubomir Visnovsky, another smaller defensemen that could rip it.
