Darren McCarty

Bruins seem to lack toughness and noticed that Darren McCarty seems to be stuggling offensively in Calgary. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.

What is the deal with his offensive production? Is he in the doghouse?

Would you be willing to deal him and what would you expect to get the deal done?

Does he still drop-em?

What's left on his contract?

I can't remember the last time the Bruins and Calgary dealt with each other.

He still drops them about every second or third game. He is also a UFA after this season and makes under 1 million. I woudl take a 3rd or less for him. Nothing big at all.

Quite Frankly you guys can have him for a 7th to 5th round pick.
He's a waste of roster and cap space for this team right now.

He played quite well last night. He has no trade value but he still could be valuable asset to the Flames in the future so I don't see the point in dumping him for a late pick.

Two words: Cap Releif. While the difference in salary may only be 350K, Putting a guy like prust in the lineup is a definate upgrade over McCarty.

We'll trade McCarty for Dono!

Bring Dono back, we miss him on the PK.

I would take a 3rd or 4th rd pick for McCarty and i would be satisfied.Clear the rest of McCarty's salary off the books, we have younger blood itching to make the show.

I'll be happy to get a 4th round pick in return.

quite frankly i dont care what we get back for him, he's another guy taking time away from our farm system players that need to start getting a chance to play in the big leagues. prust would be an upgrade over him at this rate. mcCarty drops the gloves every 4-6th game and loses most of his fights anyways. he wont shy away from anyone though. (example, getting worked over by the much bigger georges laraque in phoenix)

if you guys want toughness then he'll help, but he's not what he used to be, not even what he was last year. i think the off ice stuff is starting to affect his game.

The main thing McCarty is offering the Flames right now is experience. He's been around, and has been on championship teams. That can be a valuable presence to have in your room come playoff time. Is that enough to justify keeping him around when he has so little left to offer on the ice? Hard to say. I don't mind if he stays till the end of the year, he's gone by July 1st either way.

He's so bad that he actually has negative trade value. If we really wanted to get rid of him, we'd have to package him with a pick just to get rid of his contract, probably a 5th or even 4th rounder. He's not going anywhere, nobody wants him and Sutter has it set up so that he'll leave in the summer. I doubt very much that any team will pick him up in the off season, but he won't retire, he needs the money due to the fact that he's a degenerate gambler.

i dont agree with that statement at all... obviously you dont know much about the kind of players that get moved around at the trade deadline... 3 stanley cups and not being a liability defensively makes him tradeable at the deadline... but with that said why woudl we move him for a low pick when we can keep him for his playoff experience and the toughness he does bring to the table

Good point, all he's good for is gambling.

Healthy scratch tonight, the game has passed him by, he's simply too slow and isn't an effective heavyweight anymore.

My guess is that with all his off-ice problems like bankruptcy and all, he hasn't been able to focus much on the game. And I agree that we should trade him. He's only taking up space on the cap. I understand he provides leadership skills and all and I respect him as a veteran, but there's other players to get veteran leadership from on this team, like Tony Amonte.
