Man, I miss this team. Can we go back to 2010? Except replace Boucher with Mason.

Well, can't really argue with that.

Just wish the forwards would score a bit more, at least than it would make it a bit easier to stomach.

Why haven't they called up McGinn yet? Put him on the first or second line and keep Rosehill off the ice.

Time for Giroux and Voracek to do something. Their stats are saddening. I mean, G nowhere near PPG which pretty much is a minimum requirement with his upcoming contract and Voracek slipping a bit below 0,5 ppg. And we saw him as a premier winger? Shows what a shortened season can do. It's bollocks.

so 20 games is a better sample size than 48? Got it.

Of course not. But he doesn't even create chances, in all honesty. Jake has got so many tools but fails to convert those into points more often than not. That is a criticism-worthy performance if I ever saw one.

I don't disagree with you, he's been frustrating as hell to watch and has underperformed. Still, giving up on a player after 20 games when he had a good season last year is just silly in my mind. I hope he can step it up.

Giving up is strongly exaggerated, friend . I believe that he's a keeper. But it's actually probable that he really isn't more than a 50-or-so point player because as I see it, he always wheels with the puck with all his might - despite people calling him lazy - and speed is really his best weapon. That weapon isn't yielding any success, so...

I must admit that I would probably not even complain about his PPG average this season had he not put me on the hype train last year as it is pretty consistent with his career average. But of course we all want to believe, I get that.

That would be fine if his career had started with the Flyers, but he has a history of under performance and lackluster point production in Columbus as well. Can't just give up on him, but last season really sticks out like a sore thumb as an outlier and the rest of the results aren't all that encouraging considering what we hope he can be.

Well, people were calling for Holmgren's head about a month into the season and only stopped happening because they managed a nice eight or so game stretch against weak competition. So it wouldn't be that much of a difference from the majority of the season really.

Claude Giroux: 4g 14a
Ryan Getzlaf: 14g 18a

What do they have in common?

They both have the same cap hit.

What do they not have in common?

One is shooting almost 20% while the other is hovering around 5.5%

It will get better for G soon enough.

Giroux doesn't have that cap hit yet. He will next season though.

Yes, good call. But I assume that's where he was going with that question...

Getzlaf had a full season of 'slump' in 11-12? (almost exactly the same PPG as G at this moment, also on a team who had a massive slump, except he had better linemates.)

Where the only reasons were shooting % and the team being worse than advertised but people still acted like he had gone off a cliff and was a waste of money.

I think so too and the comparison isn't fair, but it is food for thought. One seems to be earning his contract (and it's a long season still)-- and G will earn approximately that same amount next year, but isn't close right now (stat wise) to earning that same type of paper.

Giroux's like the third to last thing to worry about with this team after Couturier and Mason.

Look at Getzlafs 11-12 season compared to the years before and after... as well as how well the team and other players did etc.

Then look at their shooting %s... (Getzlaf 11-12, G now.)

At that point I remember a big group of people laughing at Getzlaf and how he was not worth the money. And he had Selanne, Perry, Koivu and Ryan to take some of the scoring pressure off him.

Player points are integrally linked to how many goals the team scores/ how good the team is as a whole for the most part.

Edit: Appleyard is right about G's performance would be much better if he was closer to his 10+% shooting mean rather than the 5.5 he's at now.

I'm selling this in a lot of instances. It's also a chicken and egg problem.

Really no reason to lose this one tonight with Detroit's injuries.

Anything can happen but there's no excuse to not leave there tonight without two points.
