This is not a positive for the Canucks or Gillis, this hurts them in negotiating when everyone knows they are desperate for a top 6 forward.

Not necessarily. Nothing says we are desperate, only that we are seeking an improvement. If teams attempt to undervalue our players we simply go with what we have and bide our time.

Edler has been one of the more consistent offensive producers from the backend for a number of years. I don't think a slow start on a team with a bad PP is going to erase his track record of success.

As Tortorella noted, Edler was playing very well prior to his suspension. He has struggled since but it's not uncommon for players to go through streaks like this. Look at Patrice Bergeron and J. Staal - their struggles wouldn't deter me from acquiring them...

Salary status also has to factor in. The cap is expected to rise dramatically over the next 5 years - a period in which Edler is locked up for $5mil. That's a great contract for a player in that age group that can play big minutes, put up offense and also play a punishing physical game.

Dreger said you are desperate! We want more!

You think GM's take any of this stuff seriously?
