In general I would not expect any high quality defensemen to hit free agency. More like last year an aging second pairing role player like Streit will be the best they could possible find there.
Dan Girardi is the only FA D man I'd like to see here.

No one should give him more than a one year deal. He will need to prove the injury hasn't permanently ruined his game.

Hartnell and Simmonds are a potent Power Play combo with Giroux, as we're seeing tonight. The lack of production at Even Strength merits a shake-up of the top two lines, not shipping players off the team out of frustration.

He had a nice goal tonight but because they looked good on what half a season last year doesnt make them potent this year. The top poweplay has looked bad for most of the season. I wouldnt consider 28 games a "slump" either.

Personally think you need to separate them.

They have not slumped for 28 games. The #1 PP unit slumped for bit longer than the first dozen games of the year. Because the season is still young, that's 50% of the sample weight right now. I wouldn't value that stretch from earlier in the season over the last 2+ years of effectiveness.

Putting aside Hartnell's mostly terrible play and his knack for taking stupid penalties, he does have the occasional moment where he does something impressive. That goal tonight was beautiful. Not only was the shot perfect, but how he got into position to shoot was just as nice. Wish we saw more of that Hartnell and less of the punching a player in the back of the head Hartnell.

I actually think the punch to Nyquist was a good sign for him. He plays a lot better the more crap like that he gets into. I'll take that penalty over a lazy hook or hold anyday.

Hartnell, thru all his faults, gets 20+ goals a season like clockwork. He seems to be more engaged the last couple of games. Regardless, the contract makes him untradable, so he's going to be here awhile.

I agree. As much as I wish it was a mega face wash and not a punch to the back of someone's head, it finally looked like he was getting his energy up again.

Giroux's points are going to keep coming because he's finally throwing his body around and starting to fly back on the backcheck again. When he's doing that it seems like he's everywhere on the ice and he starts to get more space to work with.

I have noticed Shartnell has been shooting from his wheelhouse more ..just not finishing. Last night he did with much emphasis. I also agree he seems to play much better when he has his agitating game going...chirping, face rubs etc. Let's hope for his and the Flyers benefit he regains his form. That year he was scoring PP goals in Kerr-like fashion was great. Last two seasons he's been a shell of that...

Hartnell's advanced stats are basically in line with his all-star 2011/12 season.

I really don't think Hartnell has been as bad lately as people say. I think Voracek has been a million times worse

How do you figure? Your 12 forwards need to account for roughly 180:00 of ice time per night, and neither Hartnell nor Simmonds play more than 20:00 on their own.

Not if they're playing well, and you have other skill players in there.

Keep both of them, they both tread in the areas where most fear to tread. Which means they can get hurt at any time hence Harts foot injuries etc . If one gets hurt we still have another guy who can soldier on creating Havoc out front on the PP etc.........Plus Harts is a Philly blue collar LEGEND !
