The Islanders win this one ... they get a draft pick plus Fredrick Meyer the IV ... hehe

Islanders definitely win this trade because it allows them to rid themselves of Zhitnik's $3+ million contract for this season and next, plus they get the draft pick, and they get Meyer who is a good prospect for a No. 4/5 defenseman.

The great news for Preds fans is that despite the Blackhawks torrid 11-game start under Savard and the fact that it coincided with injuries to several key Predators, the 'Hawks have only been able to gain 2 points on the Preds (16-point deficit has become a 14-point deficit).

The same can be said for the Blue Jackets. Despite playing inspired hockey since bringing in Hitchcock, the Blue Jackets have actually lost 4 points to the Preds (18-point deficit has grown to 22 points).

I remember the day when we would go on hotstreaks and not even make a dent in St. Louis' or Detroit's leads. It's nice to be on the other end of it.

Chased Hasek after one period, but it's 3-2 Columbus now with just under 4:00 remaining in the third period.

Behind a pair of goals from Federov and some stellar goaltending from Fredrik Norrena, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Red Wings tonight by a 4-3 final score.

Thank you Columbus!

Freddy Meyer is an okay defenseman, but I have a hard time believing Zhitnik has fallen so low. Still, I trust your guys judgement, as I just haven't seen much of him this year.

What a game tonight in San Jose! The Sharks are eating up Detroit after being down by 3. Five straight goals. It should be said, whoever loses the division, Detroit or Nashville, will probably play San Jose in the first round.

Make that six unanswered goals and Detroit took a penalty to boot. All six goals against Hasek.

Make that seven goals and San Jose is STILL on the PP. All seven goals against Hasek.

Make that eight goals, five coming on the PP. Hasek allows eight goals for the first time in his career.

Hasek out after the eighth goal...Osgood in with just over 8:00 to go in the third.

9-4 final as Detroit goes down to the Sharks. Hasek allows 8 goals and gets pulled...Nabakov allowed the first three goals of the game and was pulled as well.

First time the Red Wings have allowed 9 goals since March 1993 - hate to be Los Angeles - their next opponent.

With the loss, Barry Trotz has the opportunity to be an assistant coach for the West at the All-Star Game in Dallas IF we get a win tomorrow vs. Columbus.

Go Preds!

This could have been a huge loss for the Red Wings. Hasek, with his temperment, could go nuts after having been left in. Then again, he probably won't. Still, its worth noting, and I will be eagerly keeping an eye on the situation to see if Hasek's play begins to deteriorate.

We could only be so lucky... it seems like Detoilet has been on fire lately. Its nice to see them come back to Earth. Here's to a Detroit losing streak!

Well, tonight the injury-plagued Ducks defeated the Wings by a 4-2 final score with an empty netter sealing the deal with 4.4 seconds left.

Found it hard to root for either team tonight. If Detriot had won it might have set us up to be playing for the top seed in the Western Conference Tuesday night when the Ducks visit 501 Broadway, but it also would have affected our chances of staying atop the Central Division. But the Ducks won and keep us atop the division...so I'm happy overall tonight.

3 straight losses for the Wings. In both of his last starts, Hasek has looked pedistrian. If we can pull off a win over Anaheim tomorrow, we have a very real chance of not only winning the division but also the conference

Detroit always finds a way to match what we do though. Last season it seemed as if no matter how well we played, Detroit was right there saying "not so fast." I think it will stay close all season and get decided at the very end.

well it seems the magnificent John Michael Liles is out for a month with a broken foot ... so the next time we play them ... I believe they'll be without Jordan Leopold AND John Michael Liles ... we had better take care of the Avs this next time

Oilers come up with a huge road victory in San Jose tonight ... definition of a perfect road game ... get a 3 goal lead and work hard defensively the rest of the way ... St Louis beats New Jersey and the Hawks fall to the Buffaslug

Lidstrom just went down after taking a puck in the knee. Players are helping him off the ice...
