The story told down here is that Nike secretly pushed for a Seattle bid at one time. The city council came back and basically told Nike to pound sand. There was no desire to build even more facilities.

Now I'm trying to remember if that was geared to the abortive 2012 effort (at which time sporting federations had influence and still wanted all fancy new stuff like Beijing promised and delivered and can't sustain), or 2016 (where the IOC began to realize that a little austerity was a good thing). I think the former.

Since UW just exhumed the track from the football stadium, I question whether another renovation there would be in order. So you have to build an Olympic Stadium. I recall Chicago offering to build something temporarily and leave a 5,000-to-10,000-seat amphitheater in its wake, and we saw what happened to them. It's possible the IOC has limits to their austerity. Who knows?

I should note: I was there for the Goodwill Games. I recall the first day of T&F and noting they couldn't sell upper deck seats at Husky Stadium because you couldn't see the track nearly directly beneath you. So I know it's not impossible. There's issues to be had, however.
