Who Get's The Call On D???

Roy, Syvret, or Gilbert???

CHED says that Smid has a sprained shoulder and that Tjarnqvist is injured, so that leaves us with 5 "NHL" d-men. IMO you call up Roy and give him a chance to prove himself at this level.

Between the three of them I'd say Gilbert would be my choice.

I'd go with Roy, because if I'm not mistaken this is his last year under contract??? IMO it's time to see how he does in the NHL. He's been very solid in the AHL, it's time to see if he'll be Scott Ferguson #2 or a guy like Greg Devries.

thats what i think aswell, let Gilbert complete his first season of the AHL, and lets use Roy, cause this guy deserved it.

I think Roy gets the call. I hope he gets his chance...it's now or never...

I hope Smid is out for about 4 weeks. Sitting in the box that length may help slow the game down for him. Hes been forged in the fire, now a bit of perspective from above may do him a world of good.

Most importantly however, Smid sitting for a month would force Lowes hand into being more aggressive on the trade front. A homerun at the deadline is what he is holding out for, this is obvious by guys like Zhitnik going cheap with Lowe not biting.

We needed a dman before tonight... I really hope the answer isnt Gilbert or Roy. If it is, we finish last in the Northwest as far as I can see.

TRADE!!!!!!!!!!! Our inability to move the puck out of our zone costs us game after game.....29 other teams know we suck and they tee up on it!

It's just Lowe's strategy, get the team to learn how to play with-out an important part of the team (last year it was goaltending) and then get it for us at the deadline and then when the boys get what they've been lacking they go off on a tear!!! That said, the waiting game sooner or later will bite our team on the ***.

Smid has been a top 4 guy for us for most of the year and isn't an easy replacement. I would expect a trade.

There is a rapidly deepening indent in my wall that shows the details of my forehead.

I hope to GOD this means we're getting a defenseman now.

I'd probably go with Roy. He's looked pretty dominant in the AHL.

Roy should get called up.

Tjarnqvist draws back in. Hopefully in a reduced role.

MAB has been much more impressive lately.

if Tjanqvist and Smid are out Syvret will get the call to play the left side....if Tjanqvist can come back in to play the left side then Roy is probably the best of the bunch for the press box...

5 NHL defensemen? If Smid is injured, that leaves 6 defenseman, only Greene and I hate to say it Staios are NHL calibre, and they are both 5-6th defensemen. The rest are pure garbage. #7's at best. And Bergy after another wiff that nearly sealed the deal for Dallas but for a bounce with Stefan, he needs a one way ticket somewhere.

Lowe has needed two defensemen since late June and he failed to deliver. Now ever team in the league knows how to play the Oilers by pressuring the defense and waiting for the cough up. Worse every team inthe league knows he needs two defensemen and after every loss like this the price goes up.

I'm hoping that when Gilbert gets the call he stays up with the club for the rest of the season. Another 5-10 games in the AHL won't hurt him. IMO we need to make a decision on Roy once and for all, he either fits here or he doesn't.

I hate to say it - but I don't think its Lowe's strategy to wait this long for another defenseman. I think the case is that its been early for teams to become "sellers". Even Los Angeles is only nine points out of a playoff spot, and there's still 40 games left to go in the season. Heck Columbus could still catch up and they've been on a tear with Hitchcock taking over and they're 10 points out of playoff spot.

So who's the sellers now? St. Louis? Guess what? They've been 6-1-3 in their last 10 games. I don't think the Blues think they're out of it yet. And until that occurs, they're not selling.

I think there's only one seller right now and that's the Flyers. and aside from Pitkanen (who I doubt is being traded) I'm not sure there's anyone the Oilers want from the Flyers.
