I was using the term in a purely perjorative sense.

So. Channel One Cup Roster was published today.

No Kuz.

Edit: No Kokarev. I was wrong probably. Wow. Planning for 4 scoring lines?!

Johansson not being in it this year really reduces the need for a checking line.

Was stated COC is for candidates (at least Russian coach said so). Playing good at COC will make player's chances to be at Sochi much bettter. It is stated like "there is a number of vacancies left yet".

If Kuz doesn't make the Olympic team, any chance he comes over here early?

Doesn't depend on OG. He is here after his team's season ends. Like in early March as the earliest.

I thought they could excuse him early and I really thought the only reason he remained in Russia was for the Olympic team and having that held over his head.

Why should they send their leader away before the playoffs?
Also, Kuzya has repeatedly said that he felt obliged to play for his home team a bit more. We never know the truth, but he wouldn't stay in that great city of Chelyabinsk if he didn't love Traktor.

Also, this escaped my mind - is there no longer a restriction for players coming from Europe mid-season under the new CBA or what?

In short, no. For Kuz. He is Caps property in NHL terms. Can play at any moment after signing the contract.

He can play from the moment he signs till the moment his shoulder is injured again. Easily.

The reason he remains is Russia is that he has a contract. It's that simple.

Yep. Like Soderberg last year for Boston.

Wasn't there some legal misunderstandings with Soderberg?

yeah, obviously our coach would make selections for the biggest tournament in Russian history based on politics.
How much Kuznetsov have you watched? Him being left off the team is completely justified.

Yep, Swedish Hockey Federation didn't want to let him go. If Traktor lets Kuzya leave before formal expiration on May 1st (and their GM has said they would), there will not be such problems.

No it's not, he's just not a stylistic fit for this team's fourth line.

So Channel One Cup was a big fail for Bilyaletdinov and Tretyak.

Russian hockey brass panicking. Realized they are ****ed probably.

Things could become interesting in the coming 2 weeks (7th Jan is the last day for roster decision IFAIK).

As I said, Team Russia right now is a terminal patient. The end is inevitable, but they're hoping for a miracle.

So everyone but the US is using the extra time because the US wants a bunch of pop and circumstance for their announcement.

Some point at Orlov as a possible candidate. Things are getting even funnier.

After deadline or ufa deadline.

Xxx ( hartnell type player )/AB/mojo- backie - ovie
Kuznetsov - resign grabs/new ufa - Brouwer
Chimera - laich or latta - ward
Volpatti - doggy dogg - Wilson

Trade erat, mojo, neuvirth... Acquire gritty power forward, solid d man, potential new second line c ufa or resign grabs, cheap backup vet g.

Carlsner
Green - xxx ( a McDonald)
Orlon - erskine

Grubby
Holtby
Cheap vet backup

Orlov should be a 5th d right now. Trade green if Orlov develops offensively for a top 4 solid d man. Think about trading one of laich or Brouwer, same player.

=== caps pens ECf
