With those salaries you could probably sign a 30+ goal scorer in FA.
Gionta (5.0) + Briere (4.0) + Bourque (3.3) + Bouillon (1.5) = $13.8 M -- That's 2 - 30 goal scorers. But will they sign in Montreal?

We should start a petition for a 40+ goal scorer.

You can buy Briere and save 3.7M and then trade Bourque for a 2nd/3rd rounder.

Since 2011-2012 (last 3 seasons)

He basically has the 8 best goal scoring pace in the WHOLE league since 2011. And it's not like he's never done it before. He had 33 goals in 79 games 2 years ago. That's pretty much a 35 goals season.

lol @ Stamkos' shooting percentage

We have our 30-35 goal scorer in Patches. I'm not really interested in a Michael Ryder type player. I'd rather a two-way player scoring 20 goals than a floater scoring 30 goals.

I had a feeling Gallagher would get 30 goals this season playing with Galchenyuk, but I doubt that'll happen if he keeps playing with DD and Patches.

We'll need all of our UFA salaries to resign Eller and Subban.

As ridiculous as it sounds, I really appreciate what Briere brings to the team outside of his offensive abilities on the ice. It's one more year and he's a very good mentor for our young players. He can give a lot of insight into what it means to be a star in the NHL.

Will there be two 30 goal scorers on the UFA market?

Even if there were two, what are the odds of 1 of 30 teams getting both.

The part of UFA a lot of people can't grasp is...1-they get grossly overpaid because demand > supply 2-there are 30 teams out there for them to chose, some folks think MB and co can just pick any UFa and get them.

I will be very very surprised if Patches doesn't hit 30 (unless he gets injured)

With enough money....

Marleau, Gaborik, and Vanek are all +30 goal scorers. Gaborik and Marleau aren't exactly spring chickens though.

Get rid of Gionta ($5m) and try to sign Vanek at $6-7m per year.

We will probably sign someone this summer when Gionta is gone. How about Thomas in Hamilton? He does have potential to score 30-35 in this league one day. Is Vanek any good in playoffs?

I would love if we can sign Vanek in the summer. He would be the same age as Hossa was when he signed with Chi with a good track record of producing.
I would be more scared to sign Moulson because his production I believe is more related to playing with Travares.

The salary cap is going up next year so I would hope after we sign are guys (PK and company) we will have money left to get Vanek.
I think it possible but Gio,,Boullion will not be resigned and the 2 under contract(Briere and DD) moved in a trade or bought out.

People like Tyrus and the OP seem to have forgotten Pacioretty's career high in goals. Those who say he can't maintain that pace are speeding nonsense. Idiots.

Why?

The only forward with talent that regularly crashes the net is Gallagher. Vanek would make this team a legitimate contender.

You mean the career high of 33 goals? That he could maintain, sure.

The scoring pace he has over the last 10 or so games? It's highly doubtful.

It's pretty obvious you're not a Pacioretty fan. That's fine, you're entitled to dislike whoever you like but so our other people in believing he's a 35 goal scorer going forward.

No, we don't need a 35+ goal scorer since we have Pacioretty who is pretty much that.

Yes, we need another forward who can score that many goals.

Thing is, they are rare...all the teams will try to get them if available.
