Has the emergence of Eric Gelinas and Jon Merrill in NJ made Larsson expendable ?

Flames fans have talked about Beartschi for Larsson (in terms of value not that it will happen) would Devils fans be on board with that?

No, Larsson is still not expendable.

Not at all. If the Devils preferred Baertschi over Larsson, they would have picked him when both were still on the board.

In the past 3 years Baertschi hasn't done anything to make me think he'll be anything more than a 2nd/3rd line tweener. His production is average at best, and we already have plenty of those kinds of guys. Larsson has already established himself as a #3 defenseman that can anchor a shutdown pairing.

We could get much better offers if we chose to shop him, just look at this thread.

ROR for Larsson looks pretty good.

What? He is 21 and doing fine in the NHL calling Sven a 2nd/3rd line tweener at best is a joke.

I think we would have to add but calling Sven a 3rd/2nd liner tweener would be like me calling Larrson a potential #4 defenseman.

They were offered significantly more from other teams, for what that may be worth to you.

If it meant the Oilers get Larsson, I'd include both Yakupov and Klefbom for Larsson, and a good forward prospect who is close to being ready. Preferably one with size.

Looks good for who? NJ....sure. What has Larsson done in the last 2 years to warrant such a high return? In a word....he has done nothing. This is a horrible deal. Bottom line is, to date...Larsson has regressed from his rookie year, and at this point of his career looks like a miss for a 4th overall pick. That doesn't mean he won't have a long career in the NHL, but he doesn't look like the impact number 1-2 Dman you expect from that high of a pick.

Spoken like someone who hasn't watched Adam Larsson this season. He's been one of our better defensemen at times this season. True, he had a sophomore slump last year but:

1. That's not an un-common thing with players
2. Shortened season.
3. Larsson has rebounded ten-fold this year (before his injury that is.)

Also keep note that Adam Larsson will never be an "offensive juggernaut" of a defenseman. Especially in juniors his offensive numbers weren't that great. He was drafted as a defensive defenseman and that's what he is.

To say he's a "bust" or a "miss of a pick" well...I just gotta

who needs forwards? we'll just play all d-men. Gelinas is a converted forward and harrold can play forward too.

I didn't say he was a bust. I did say for where he was drafted, it was a miss. Defensive Dmen should never go that high. You need more well rounded players who contribute at both ends of the ice that high. Game changers. He is like Schenn, with better skating but less physicality and fat. Schenn is a decent Dman.....but it was an absolute blunder to take him that high. Larsson looks like a 4-6 Dman. That's not bad, but not near the value of a ROR.

F I'd like him in a Leafs uniform more than anyone on the planet. Dont think it'd work though. Doubt theres interest in Lupul, outside that I dont think theres anything we could offer

I think the only way I would trade Larsson is if a very young player like Shinkaruk or Nichushkin + 1st would head our way.

Shinkaruk = no . He needs to prove himself a bit
Nichuskin = hell yes, but Dallas wont

Oh please...Montreal fans would be jumping for joy if that trade went through. NJ hangs up immediately.

Merrill hasn't been better than Larsson, and Adam is a year younger. Not only that but who else do we have on RD?

Matteau would probably fit what you describe. He is doing pretty good lately over ppg in his last 10 or so games in the AHL. I would probably do that deal to get Yakupov. We need a potential top line talent, and I definitely think he will be just that.

Love to have him, don't think Jersey deals him though. I'd offer Gauthier+Biggs and Gardiner but I know it's too much quantity.
