Frans Nielsen for D

With Ryan Strome now leading the AHL in points, he seems ready to step into the NHL as the 2nd line center. Nielsen has been very good this year, and it would be good for the Islanders to move him while his value is fairly high and acquire a defenseman. Any kind of defenseman would help this team (PMD, two-way, stay at home), but it has to be an NHL defenseman, no prospects or kids.

What defenseman could the Islanders get for Frans Nielsen? Cody Franson? Niklas Hjalmarsson? Kevin Klein?

Feel free to add on either side.

I wouldn't consider it prudent to throw Strome to the wolves and eject Nielsen, especially considering what Nielsen brings defensively and in terms of special teams. Can't afford to get rid of him, he's probably one of the few veterans on the team too. Worse case scenario, make him our 3C. This is just filling one hole while making another.

What's wrong with having Tavares, Strome, and Nielsen?

Solution: Waive Regin and roll Tavares Nielsen Strome and Cizikas. Wait out the defensive injuries or trade Vanek for defensive help.

The Islanders don't have that luxury. To many holes on defense.

Obviously, Tavares and Strome are not moving. So,a trade of Nielsen makes sense.

Why not have Tavares-Strome-Nelson-Cizikas, trade Nielsen for D, and still waive Regin?

When you're severely lacking in defense, I can never advocate trading away your best defensive forward, unless the return is ridiculous.

Look into trading Bailey, Grabner, Vanek, Amac, Nabby before Frans. We need him and he's locked up for the next couple years.

Because our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th line centers would collectively have just over 100 games under their belts? And that's almost all Cizikas. I think Nelson and Strome are outstanding prospects and just what we need, but it is just way too foolhardy and risky to expect them shoulder such a huge load right off the bat. Especially with our experiences in doing so, just look at Donovan this season. Plus knowing Cappy, Bailey would be shifted back to center before a rookie took it

you could probably take nick schultz for a mid pick if he isn't re-signing. he's actually playing well.

The Islanders are 29th in the league. The last thing Snow wants is another pending u. f. a..

I would rather have inexperience up front than on the blue line.

I'm not advocating a trade of Frans Nielsen, I'm just saying his value will probably never be as high as it is now where he's scored enough to sell high on.

Derek Smith is just as bad as any of the other defensemen we have.

What would you say if we took Martin out it since that's obviously overkill and the proposal would be a straight 1-for-1 swap? And please don't note fellow nuck fans, I just wanna gauge the value you NYI fans see in the two of them, so don't tar and feather me for this question.

Edit: Just saw that Nucks picture on your signature. So maybe there's no need to answer this.

I'm a Canucks fan. I wouldn't move Edler for Nielsen+Martin, would need Okposo, and I doubt the Isles would do that.

Just saw your edit

I'd be curious about Nik6 for Bailey swap, but how in the world did Bailey earn a 3.3M cap hit that has 5 more years?

I mean I like Bailey and he's still young so that could be very friendly but I didn't think he'd earned anything close to that. I'd be wary of locking up someone that produces at a 15 - 20 g rate for 3M+ for another 5 years.

Frans Nielsen to Chicago

Ryan Strome fills in next year as the two center.

Nielsen is having a career year. You could sell on the high side.

Remember we are not trying to lose depth so an AHL player or draft pick would most likely be the main meat in the deal.
