Flyers GM Paul Holmgren held a conference call with reporters on Sunday evening to discuss Vinny Lecavalier's injury.
He announced that Lecavalier will be out of the line-up for 3-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his lower back.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren gave the following injury update with regards to center Vincent Lecavalier, early Sunday morning.
"Vinny Lecavalier skated yesterday (Dec. 7) in Dallas. It is the team's decision this morning for Lecavalier to return to Philadelphia for further evaluation by our medical staff. It is undecided if he will join the team in Chicago."
Lecavalier has been out of the lineup for the last three games (Minnesota, Detroit & Dallas) with back spasms, after scoring the deciding goal in the Flyers' 3-2 shootout win at Nashville on Nov. 30.
I don't know about anyone else but I really hope McGinn isn't the one called up. They need a faster skater who can provide offence, not yet another slow grinder. I'd like to see Straka given a chance just because he's a LW who apparently has a really nice shot and I want to see what he can do.
Vinny's 33 and only missed time in the past few seasons when pucks hit him on the hand and foot. Free agents get signed all the time that are his age and older. He was no more likely than any other player on the team to suffer a back injury.
Your post reminds me of people on the main boards who blamed Pronger's eye injury on his body breaking down due to old age.
