Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, and Ryan Callahan to Your Team

Dan Girardi: UFA after this year

Ryan Callahan: UFA after this year

Marc Staal: 1 year after this one at a 3.975 million cap hit, then UFA

These guys just aren't working out with the Rangers right now. I'd assume Staal won't be traded at the moment since he may have another concussion. He's starting to approach "damaged goods" territory.

Girardi and Callahan are underwhelming big time and don't look like good fits for the Rangers moving forward. They will command long term contracts with a decent price tag, as well, a price the Rangers front office may not want to pay.

The Rangers would be looking for faster, more skilled players in exchange.

Leafs would want Staal and Girardi, but the value of Staal is very low right now and Girardi is a pending UFA so I dont see them offering anything to insane.

FFS trading Callahan makes no sense and so does losing him in the offseason.

With Staal out, I would think NYR cant afford to trade away DelZotto or Girardi.

Do you want to pay him $5.5 million a year for the 6-7 years he'll command?

Ryan Callahan is one of my favorite Rangers. Ever since he came back from the broken hand, his play has fallen off of a cliff. Given his injury history, I'm thinking long and hard about bringing him back. A long term contract for him or Girardi is very risky considering the type of game they play.

Girardi will get a lot of interest from the Leafs, but as a pending UFA and where our team is at ikely won't happen via trade.

They're good complimentary players. They don't fit what AV is trying to do with the team is all. I would rather get something rather than letting them walk for nothing. What would the Oilers be willing to give up besides Hemsky?

Eh, too much. The discussion starts with Gardiner and goes from there. I know asking for Reilly is too much.

This is a bit closer. Franson has a decent point shot, right? Something the Rangers could really use. Would prefer Carter Ashton or Tyler Biggs to Smithson though.

Right, for Girardi and Callahan these would be rental prices. I wouldn't be asking for established pieces signed to good deals. The Rangers should be targeting skill guys that are on the cusp of breaking out or are rendudant on their own teams.

Not going to happen. Franson is an RFA, so you'll get at least something out of him for at least another year until he's a UFA. It's going to be some sort of veteran AHLer from us who should be in the NHL. Smithson gives you the flexibility to move Boyle for a piece, and can provide bottom 6 support. Unless you want to increase the pick, that's where it'd be at. Otherwise, yes Franson has a monster shot from the point and will be amazing on your team. Girardi>Franson though.

Perron for Staal + ?

+ is there because Perron is signed 1 year longer, and Staal is becoming injury prone.

It'd depend how Marc is health wise for what Carolina would give up for him. If he's back to normal Tlusty, 1st, decent prospect. If not just wait for free agency unlike they did with Jordan.

I don't know why any team would want to trade for Staal when he's so close to UFA, it's pretty clear he's gonna join his brothers in Carolina the second he gets a chance.

Interesting, how's Smithson's skating? The Rangers are looking for speed.

I would be interested in a straight swap. Perron is a great player. Righty shot too. Value wise, I don't see why the Rangers would add, despite Staal's injuries. Perron has concussion history, too.

Depends on what the decent prospect would be.

Missed this one earlier, Jensen would interest me. Is Brendan Gaunce available?

Edmonton is in love with Perron. Don't think their fans will like that too much.

How?

I think it makes a lot of sense. He's not going to be worth the contract he gets. He's also not a player that you overpay for. Let someone else do that instead of the Rangers. And get something for him before that happens.
