You're right, but it's still remarkable for a 20 year old. This goes to pedigree. Gibson isn't being moved for anything less than a massive overpayment. He is too intriguing a goaltending prospect.

Gibson is about as blue chip as a goalie prospect can be.

You can't put a value on Gibson. He max potential is a franchise GOALIE which are harder to acquire then anything. Ya the 3rd overall is overpayment for a goalie that hasn't played in the NHL but ducks fans are expecting him to pan out. In which case no one will pay what we would accept.

Not to mention the Ducks are in no rush with him. It's not like he is coming up on his UFA years and our hand is being forced like Vancouver or LA.

All this makes sense to me.

I agree with the above 100%, but goalies can have this amazing resume and then still flake out at the NHL. Until they are established NHLers, goalies are a crapshoot. Been like that for a while now. I wouldn't deal a top 10 pick for Gibson.

Value is a pretty big overpayment for Gibson. Like a really big one. Despite that, I still don't think Anaheim would say yes.

A big part of the issue is the pick doesn't help us for a few years while Gibson will play a few games next year. The rest of it is what do we get that we don't already have? If its not a top pairing d partner for fowler, or a nhl established young 2c we already have one in the nhl or the system.

I'm curious, would you be open to trading Andersen to NY?

Not unless we resign hiller, Andersen is our starter when Fasth gets injured next year.

Not this season. Hiller is a UFA at the end of the year, and Fasth seems pretty fragile. There is too much uncertainty.

Also, as people have pointed out, Gibson is an impressive prospect, but with goalies you can never be sure. The Ducks have invested a lot into being a competitive team now(while also trying to improve moving ahead), and I don't think they can afford to screw up in net.

how does gibson compare to jack campbell or the lightning prospect with the really long name (I'm surprised the lighting aren't being brought up more as a G trade partner with bishop lindsback and the great prospect)

Ah, I can understand that. So I'm assuming that you'll keep Gibson in the minors for the next couple of seasons unless he forces your hand?

He will be our third goalie next year and with fasth getting injured so often he will likely split the year between nhl and ahl. The year after he should split the nhl job with Andersen.

You mean, unless he goes into training camp and just looks ridiculous? Yeah, probably. Anaheim can afford to be patient, and it's probably in their best interests(and Gibson's long-term interests) to be exactly that.

That being said, I wouldn't bet against him forcing the issue.

Vasilevski?

Gibson looks more impressive than Campbell, by a fair margin, I think. Vasilevski seems a bit more raw, but I think you could argue that he has a bit more high end potential.

Fair enough. I would have figured you'd want a more experienced tandem though. But if it works, it works.

Yes, that's what I meant - playing so well that you have to play him.

I don't hate it because I think Gibson is going to be one of the best in the NHL when he gets there.

The value is there, but Gibson should be untouchable to Anaheim

I too believe that Gibson will be a good goaltender in the future but honestly I would rather pay the lesser price and grab Hiller who could help us now and hope a long term starter emerges from our system.

What would be a serious price for Hiller right now. Would you Nabokov to be a Vet back-up?
