Frequently it seems players who have spent their whole career with one team struggle in their first year elsewhere. Weiss was the uncontested #1 in Florida, which can't hurt.

Islanders put Pierre-Marc Bouchard on waivers.

is he worth a claim?? cant be worse than Pouliot and Pyatt... Bouchard makes 2 mil. Pyatt and Pouliot combind make more than that..

Bouchard would add a little more scoring... at 2.0 their are worse options around the NHL.

i wonder what would have happened if the Rangers were in that situation that the Penguins and Bruins were in... i bet they would go to the locker room to wait till the game was over

5 games for Neal is jack ****. Should be 10.

This crap will never stop with these baby soft punishments.

However, I have a hard time feeling bad for Marchand. I don't at all, actually.

Well he is a repeat offender so that should bump up the number of games. But then his team affiliation negates his previous history. So 5 games sounds about right for the nhl.....

My first thoughts told me that 5 games was enough for Neal, but now I see that it's not. It was a clown move. He should have gotten more. Also:

Adam Herman ‏@Herman_NYRBlog

Sean Avery was suspended 6 games by NHL for a sloppy seconds joke. James Neal got suspended 5 games for kneeing a guy in the head. Safety!

Definitely not enough, especially when you watch the video explanation:

http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/con...id=DL|NHL|home

For about two years Avery had the longest suspension in the league for his comment. It wasn't till Wisieneski got 8 games for boarding in 2010 that someone got more than Avery. It is a pretty pathetic track record by the NHL.

off topic, while looking back at past suspensions check out this wikipedia entry.

So with the lack of (serious) suspension for Neal the question has to be asked; if the players don't care about player safety and the league/PA doesn't appear to either, why is it a subject that always comes up?

I'm really curious about Thornton's suspension. It seems that, while there are much more suspensions are handed out, the lengths are rather limited. Before the new "awareness" for player safety under Shanahan, suspensions were handed out rather sparsely, but when they were, they really sent a message (Bertuzzi, Simon and Cooke). What's Shanahan's longest non-automatic suspension? Torres 25 games obviously, but then the next one is Kaleta with 10 after his umpteenth suspension. Plays like Neal's should get double figures and I think he actually would've gotten that under Campbell.

Speaking of wisinewski and Avery... wisinewski got two games for making a... sexual gesture towards Avery. During a game. On TV. Live. NHL saw it as apples and oranges and disciplined accordingly.

Shero said Orpik doesn't remember anything that happened after the anthem Saturday night. He's doing OK, resting, has headaches, neck ache.
