Rangers dont have much size up front that plays a gritty game.. Gaunce would be a good fit and can use depth at center ice.
I'd do a first and Gaunce for Callahan.

Probably looking for someone with a bit more offense. Gaunce would be nice. Kassian would be too although AV doesn't like him.

Ducks maybe throw another pick in if that doesn't do it. Would NY want Palmieri/Winnik?
Probably looking at Palmieri + for either one. Winnik doesn't add much.

No one has any proof that Staal is going to Carolina at the end of his contract. Other than it makes sense. We'd probably have an idea by now if he was really looking to do it.

His value in no way goes down because of "the Carolina factor".

Staal is a free agent next year.

Cally and G are free agents this year however.

Edmonton needs to add a little bit more but I like this deal. Maybe throw in a tough 3rd liner?

We are somewhat lacking in that department. Jones and Joensuu are the only ones who sort of fit that category. We would also need to send back salary to even the deal out. Hemsky/N.Schultz have to go back to you.

Hall-RNH-Yakupov
Perron-Gagner-Callahan
Joensuu-Gordon-Hemsky
Gazdic-Lander-Arcobello

Staal-Petry
Nurse-Girardi
Ference-J.Schultz
Belov

I wonder if any 3 of them would resign.

Girardi wouldn't resign if he's not getting 1st line defensive time, He would have to play with Staal...

No way I would give up Peron for one year of (lately) injury prone Stall who is probably going to Carolina as soon as he can, add to that perron has fit in perfectly with the team nd give use a much needed edge. FFS give your head a shake.

The Rangers will make deals to try and improve their third and fourth line role players. They aren't going to have to trade MDZ, Girardi, Brassard or Callahan to do that. Not will they have to trade any top to very good prospect. There are several solid role players on lousy NHL teams that won't command much of a return that are available.

As a fan of neither team, how does this make any sense at all for Edmonton? (and I believe an Oiler's fan proposed it).
1) Edmonton is a long shot to make the playoffs so it's not like adding these three (and subtracting Eberle) is going to be the difference in a tough western conference.
2) Callahan and Girardi are UFAs after the season.
3) Staal is injured again and by NYR's fans own admission, hasn't played well this year.
4) Currently, the Oiler's pick is #4 overall (without taking into consideration the lottery).

Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems to make no sense for Edmonton.

You'll have to wait to see if Staal is playing up to shape after the injury. That's a fair concern to have.

But ddding Staal to EDM's defensive core, immensely improves the team.

It would be cool to send Palmieri to NY since he is from that area. It could be a big boost to him as well, as he has disappeared as of late. Winnik probably won't move, but wasn't really sure who would have to go to make room. Ducks would definitely be in on Girardi though.

There is no proof, just speculation. And no, we likely wouldn't have heard anything about it, because that's the type of thing that team's use to accuse other teams of tampering. And nobody wants to start that mess. His value goes down, just as any other players value would, if it was believed that he wouldn't stay on your team for more than a year.

Let's just trade whole rosters while we're at it. And coaches.

I hear you.

I was responding to the prior post which was too uneven to let stand, IMO.

Well, until he signs an extension, he has that value of an impending UFA, for better or worse. NYR should get standard rental price for him and maybe some conditionals if he does re-sign.

Coaches do like choosing their own captains...

Maybe he sees Nash as his guy? We may never know.
