Lupul's injuries are a huge worry for me though...am I right in thinking that if Lupul weren't injured half the time the Leafs wouldn't consider this?

It pretty much all comes down to whether or not Lupul is healthy come playoff time. If he's not, then it's not worthwhile. So there's a fair bit of risk involved, which I'm not sure I'm willing to take.

Bieksa does have a NTC though, so it may be moot either way.
Not for me, it's been extremely clear this season that our defense...well...it sucks. We need a very big upgrade, if that costs Lupul...i'd do it. Last year i may have said no, but with the JVR/Kessel chemestry, i think Lupul could be moved.

Value might be there.

However, Bieksa at 32 only has a few good years left so I'd hope Nonis looks for something a core piece that is younger than him in exchange for Lupul with where Toronto is at as an organization.

Toronto has a very nice young core of Phaneuf, Kessel, Rielly, Kadri, JVR and should be looking to add another core piece in this age range. Toronto isn't winning the cup this season or even next but Bieksa is a win now type of player.

As a Leafs fan Edler because of his age and contract interests me far more than Bieksa.

If we trade Edler we would be looking for a younger forward, or a package of younger forwards.

I don't think Van does this. As mentioned Lupul's injury history makes this a no go....Van is very familiar with similar players like Salo/Booth that are often injured. It's a good offer no doubt, but there's obviously a reason you are trying to dump him.
LOL. Bieksa has only gotten close to a full season once in the last 5 years and he still missed a few games in that one.

Please do some research before making stupid comments.

2008 - 72 gp
2009 - 55 gp
2010 - 66 gp
2011 - 78 gp
2012 - 36 of 48 gp

Not exactly the picture of health now is it?

While correct in the statement that Lupul is injury prone is correct, Bieksa is far from a lock to anything more than 70 games a season. In fact, he averages 80% games played to a full season in the last 5 years.

If you take out Lupul's one catastrophic blood infection issue, he is very close to that number as well.

Wait, we're trading Bieksa and Edler to Toronto?

I meant as of right now that's what our D would be. When Edler comes back we could send Corrado back down.

But the way our D has been playing without Edler we could trade him away for a 7th

Canucks don't trade a defenseman who is one of the best D in the league when he brings his best in addition to being a strong leader in the locker room for some injury prone winger

Do some research? So you were serious after all

Doing some "research" you'll find out what his injuries were.

The two big chunks of missed time were a broken leg from a shot block, and a lacerated calf. He had a lacerated calf in 2008 as well. The only other non full season was last season with a groin injury. So only one of those injuries wasn't an accident.

Lupul? Here's a list of his injuries and I'll let people that have some brain cells decide which one of these players is injury prone (if you even know what that term means)

List of injuries where the player missed significant time:

Lacerated Calf
Broken foot
Lacerated Calf
Groin strain

vs

Concussion
Broken wrist
Concussion
Sprained ankle
Abdominal injury
Back injury- later requiring back surgery- missed 52 games
Back injury missed 28 more games next season
Separated shoulder
Forearm injury
Concussion
Groin strain

Talk about stupid comments

It's fair value. However, I'd be pretty concerned about our leadership core and our grit without Bieksa on the roster. He's a fan favourite too.

I don't know, I'm on the fence.

Bieksa has a quality that is in short supply on the Canucks. His aggressive D play coupled with his offensive instincts keeps him on the Canuck roster for the foreseeable future.

I understand why TML fans think it is an over pay, but Bieksa is too important to Vancouver right now.

Bieksa is going nowhere, there is no way he'd waive his NTC for TO.

Would rather get Edler if Franson is included otherwise Bieksa+ (small plus) for Lupul sounds good.

Lupul is ppg winger since he came to Leafs. Bieksa looks more like top end second pairing defender.

Let's just agree to disagree.
