Good luck selling tickets Washington after that, like him or not people still pay to see him.
As it stands right now Perron has more points than Oveckin, Elliott may be over rated but he's still better than either one of Washington's goaltenders they have now, yes Jackman is old but a solid veteran Dman.

Ovechkin is a great player and the Blues could probably add more but at 9.5 million against the cap Washington would have to be reasonable, especially being the worst team in the league.

Wow, what a thread. IMO Ovie's flame was blown out by the management's moves since three years. Problem is that he will be hard to trade for as it will require serious overpayment and he hasn't been his own shadow since two years. That is a huge risk that only a few GM's in today's NHL would take. As for the Caps, I would wait for some kind of surge, as his value is presently on the low side. Plus, let's not forget his contract.

Here's one for the road: the two Schenns plus a 1st?
Or another one from an equally wild GM: Tavares straight up?

As for the Habs, forget about it. MB would not risk his young career by swapping his premium youngsters (Price, Subban, Gally, Patch) in exchange of an enigmatic Ovie.

So the Habs don't offer any of those........

Tinordi

Salary dump kaberle

For OV

Washington gets

Future top 4 stay at home defenceman
Solid 2nd line centre
Probable top 10 pick to go with their 1st overall pick
And rid themselves of a huge salary

Both players have 8 years left on their contracts after this year.

The Caps can buy out DP - pay him 24 million over the next 16 years ( w/o it going against the cap).

Ovi is owed about 80 million over the next 8 years ( Islanders have plenty of cap space plus the islanders lose DP 4.5 million a year salary).

The questions are do the Caps want to trade the face of their franchise, will the Islanders want to pay to make a run at a playoff spot and how much more do the Isles have to add to the trade.
My proposal around Brian Richards is similar, but gives Caps 1+ yrs production before buyout, which is not automatic, cause BR contract declines with buyout at end already in that contract, if I am not mistaken. So as long as he is mostly close to form, he may not be worth the full 6.6 per cap hit til that last contract phase, but he should have enough production and thus value to be marketable, even if at a discount due to declining skills.

DiP has minimal play value at this point; only option would be buy-out.

If anybody thinks OV will get even worse, it's wrong. Once the Caps get healthy or if a new coach lets him play hockey the way he wants, he'll be back to good scoring production and then it's a good time to trade if Caps want that
