Did any of them have good tournaments? I thin Pyatt did okay but Staal had virtually no offense and the same for Cliche. Anybody actually see the games somehow (US coverage sux)?

I've watched a few games on the TSN website replay. All three played very well. Staal makes it look too easy. In fact I'm not sure how challenged he is at this level anymore. I saw him make some really nice plays, but it's more the fact that he always seems relaxed, in control and rarely out of position. I heard several comments from the broadcasters on how well they thought he was playing. He uses his stick to effortlessly poke pucks away from opponents.

Pyatt really stuck out in the first US vs CANADA game. He was every where. That pretty much sums up his game always around the puck making things happen. Great two way player.

Cliche did not get nearly as much ice time as the other two and played mainly a D role. But he played well also. Saw some nice moves on the O side and he back checks very well. Best thing is maybe his speed. The guy can flat out fly.

I think all three will be Rangers inside of a 2/3 years.

Tsn announcers said many people thought that Marc Staal should have won the top defenceman award. They all agreed the he was the top Canadian defenceman.

RDS.ca did a live webcast of all the games on TSN with the replays available to everyone on TSN.NHL Center Ice did show five of the seven US games. The coverage in the US is terrible but with the internet everyone has access to the Canadian media which makes any non-US coverage not a big deal.If you made the effort, the games were available to see,the articles were available to read and the analysis was available on TSN's broadband video section. There is a thread on this broad covering the Rangers prospects in the WJC

I saw all of the Canadian games on either CI or on the net.Staal was exclusively paired with Ryan Parent. They were used against the opposing teams best players. The #1 PK pair.Patrick Kane was the best forward on the US and he had a quiet game against Canada. Why is that?Because Staal was all over him.Against a smaller faster player. On the bigger ice.Staal didn't give him a sniff.Staal was matched up against Kane.In the gold medal game,Staal made a terrific move to set up Canada's first goal

I hate internet feeds, can't see ****, so you'll have to forgive my lack of effort.

Glad to hear Staal played well, hearing that elsewhere now too.

In both this and last year's WJC Staal (along with Parent) have been asked to shut down the opponents top lines, and that'y what he's done both years. Most observers would tell you that Staal was dominant defensively whenever he was on the ice, which is often.

Staal was never asked to be an offensive force, and considering the enormous defensive task that was asked of him, you can't expect many points.

yeah, i totally agree. the times i watched Canada during the WJC, most of the time his team was on the ice he was always hanging out just beyond the blueline. "staying at home" defensively.. its hard to score when you always hang back. he is damn strong and eraserish..

Neither Staal, Pyatt or Cliche were offensive force in the tournament for Team Canada. But Staal and Cliche were really valuable in penalty kill...

Marc Staal and his partner Ryan Parent were great defensively all tournament..

Marc Staal was dynamite when Cogliano score the first Canadian goal... The plays was prepared by Marc Staal...

I did'nt see much of Pyatt but I didn't expect to!

I think the three played well... Cliche didn't have a lot of Ice Time though!

He started in the 4th line but finished the tournament on the Third!

Actually Cliche played the first game on the third line, but then was moved to the 4th until the last game. Pyatt, however started on the third line and was moved to the 2nd on the 2nd to last game. Pyatt also played on the 1st PP unit and 1st PK unit.

You didn't pay much attention if you didn't see much of Pyatt. He were out there quite often and had a quit prominant role. Defenitly were a really important role player for them, on the first PP and PK in many games.

Question on Parent...

this is the second straight year (at least) in which he was Staal's partner - does he seem to be a better defensive partner than Staal? Just seemed as though I noticed him more.

The comment isn't meant as a negative to Staal, rather a positive of Parent. I'm a big fan of Staal.

There was a lot of love from Pierre McGuire heading in Tom Pyatt's direction. It was impossible not to notice him. He did a lot of little things right. He won some key face offs and always had his feet moving.

All three of the prospects played very well.

Staal was BY FAR the best defenseman again in the whole tournament. I can easily see why he was pissed about not making the Rangers... it's not a challenge for him anymore. Erik Johnson played great, and I'm not going to bash him, but he won top defender because of his offense. Had Staal not played a shutdown role, and had a chance to jump up into the play a little more, he would have won top defender for the SECOND straight year, and I still stand by the fact that he should have. I don't know how Letang got ANY consideration for top defender, he wasn't even the SECOND best defender on the team... that would be Ryan Parent.

As for Tom Pyatt, I loved what I saw from him playing with Jonathon Toews. Pyatt plays a very sound two-way game, and his skating is LEAPS AND BOUNDS ahead of where he was a year ago, and that was a HUGE improvement from when he was drafted. The kid just knows where to be, and has real good hands. He reminds me a lot of Kris Draper, and that's what I think he'll pan out to be. A top notch shutdown forward/two-way player.

Marc-Andre Cliche can flat out fly. Zero offense from him because he was put in an an energy player's role and was given next to nothing in terms of ice time, but he played very well defensively, and rarely looked out of place in his own zone. I think with some ice time and some confidence, he can be another great checking player.

These are three solid players that I'd love to have on the team one day.

The problem now is... we need that potential superstar in the system. Those kind of players we lack.

You obviously didn't pay much attention, Pyatt played on a line with Toews, and he's one of the top forwards in the tournament. Pyatt's going to get a lot of attention playing with a high caliber prospect like that.

I don't know about Staal making the team next year, THe rangers are very slow when it comes to prospects. He'll be in Hartford.

Well come guys which is it, are we slow at developing or do we ruin every high end prospect by rushing them, we can't have it both ways (*starts to think* are can we? Hmmmm......)
