I think klefbom should be up here to be honest. Our minor league system stinks to high heaven. We have a host of garbage dmen up here who could be replaced.

He is suddenly a big concern seeing as a lot young Dmen drafted when he was or after have been playing on their NHL teams.

Of course this regime talks a great game about development but is more concerned with giving their buddies jobs rather than getting the best coaches possible.

We have developed almost no one at all? How is that? It's a place where our highly touted draft picks go to become suspects.

The Oilers haven't really sent any highly regarded draft picks there, all their top young talent has gone straight to the NHL. Klefbom is first 1st round pick of the Oilers to play for the Oilers farm team before the big club since Alex Plante...
I mean, the Barons have only been around for 3 seasons, before that it was a mess of shared farm teams, loans and Springfield. I think the they've seen good progress with Arco, Fedun, Marincin etc, and even Lander and Hartikainen. Time will tell, but frankly the situation with the Oilersmmakes it pretty difficult for a callup to succeed at all.

So the answer is to bring him up to the NHL where we developed how many NHL d-men?

Paajarvi, Colin Macdonald, Petry, Lander.
Pitlick seems to be doing alright despite the injuries. Marincin has looked fine in call ups. Little too early to be calling bust on our farm system.

Nelson on TSN1260 right now, here's some extremely paraphrased thoughts from the coach:

Klefbom is coming off his two best games, requires patience, still young.

Pitlick will be back in the lineup for the weekend, playing with R.Hamilton and Horak.
Over the last couple years they've worked on getting him to be consistently physical.

Praises Ewanyk and Kessey for their hard work, skating, and versatility for young guys.

Horak played great against Chicago, is quicker/more explosive than he thought.

Brossoit has been up and down, which is typical for a first year pro, is working with Chabot. Thinks having Bachman around as a mentor will be good.

Don't forget the good job that Todd Nelson has done in the development of Mark Arcobello. I think our farm system is anything but a bust and has actually been doing a good job since they established it 3 years ago.

I feel for Nelson here. The guy really has a tough job. Gets this highly touted prospect and then has to be the one to break it to people that he needs time. Same is true with a lot of guys. Just because guys look good in Junior doesn't mean they are going to come into the AHL and dominate.

Probably easier to develop an Arcobello who has been forced to change his game and play a smarter game his whole career. You get the Hamilton's or Plante's or Martindale's and these guys were men playing against boys for most their careers so they didn't make the adjustments needed to get to the next level. Now they get to that next level and they are trying to learn things they should've learned a few years ago.

Probably holds true for our young NHLers as well. Hall and Yak will be\should be very different players in 3 yrs. Long ways to go for Nurse as well.

I watched the game last night and I'd say he looked good.

Incredibly talented. He makes Justin Schultz look like a stay-at-home defenseman though haha.

He loves deking through forecheckers when he's the last man back and he makes a bunch of high risk moves along the blueline. On the plus side, it was working though, but I don't know how long that lasts.

Curtis Hamilton with points in 4 games in a row now. He's been playing with Martindale and Pitlick. Is he finally turning the corner?

Gernat also has his first goal as a pro tonight, Lander and Pitlick assisting it.

edit: Make that a goal and an assist for Lander tonight.

Two goals for Gernat. Hopefully this is a year of actual development in OKC no more vets for playoff runs.

Why hasn't Klefbom played the past two games? hurt?

Gernat is really intersting, the guy has a really high ceiling. he is a boom or bust prospect for sure. His offensive instincts are up their with the best of them.

I think MacT told Nelson to play the prospects and not random AHL lifers.

Well we also did not hire a bunch of guys like Green and Keller this year so Nelson can't use them.

The veterans are still playing a bunch of minutes.

Lots of them in the top9 forward spots and top4 D spots.

The young guys like Ewanyk, Kessy, Klefbom, Musil and Gernat have been playing at the bottom of the line-up for the most part.

A lot of those guys have been playing roster spots though. Heavy PK minutes, etc...

Yup. I think they're doing a good job with that.

Ewanyk, Kessy and Musil have been on the PK quite a bit.
