I just don't get the logic of trading your only good young hitter (who for years you absolutely refused to include in any trade) just so you can acquire a middle-rotation starter... Especially when you already have 2 Aces at the top of the rotation and a prospect in Gonzalez that supposedly can slot in the 3-4 spot.

The extra money is used to sign one of the Garzas or Jimenezes that are out there and maybe a Nelson Cruz or Choo (if he is still out there...or both maybe??). Lineup looks something like this:
I doubt they have the money for that. The whole reason Amaro wants to ditch the Pappelbon contract or trade Brown is because he can't afford the starting pitching options that are out there now.

I doubt they could bring in Garza or Jimenez + Nelson or Choo. Choo alone might get a 100+ million contract.

Definitely a long shot. I don't really think it will happen, especially getting all three. But I think that if Paps is traded (with or without Brown), the goal will be to bring in one pitcher in the realm of Garza or Jimenez and one OF in the realm of Nelson or Choo. I think they have the money for it too. I read something somewhere (I'll have to find it) but it said that the plan was to go after one of the OF and a SP even before Paps was being rumored to be traded. It was also before Byrd was signed, but still. The point was that they had the money. Haha.

Yeah, this. Choo will probably get a ton of money. Jimenez and Garza will both get a lot. And Cruz isn't that good anyway. Also, we've got to look at this through the long view. Trading one of our only potential above average young players to acquire more guys who are 30+ is not the route this team should be taking.

It really sucks Doc couldn't get a ring with us. But he'll always be one of my favorite Phillies ever. His dedication was unmatched. Best of luck in retirement Doc.

That is what bugs me the most. Amaro refused to trade Brown when we were contending for a championship, then when he finally breaks out and shows us why he wasn't traded, Amaro wants to move him...and for a pitcher, which, last I checked, wasn't the problem.

This team is will be 4th or 5th this year. That's almost a lock.

Amaro basically just said he signed another Kendrick, this MAG kid is not going to pitch for the Phils next year, maybe 2nd half at best.

So

Rotation: Hamels/Lee/???/Kendrick/Kendrick-like

Lineup: Rollins/Revere/Utley/Howard/Byrd/Brown/Asche/Ruiz

Bullpen: Bastardo/Papelbon/Diekman/Martin/I have no idea who else

Jesus christ that team is pure garbage.

Think you're looking at the wrong guy, or maybe I am. I think he's 25.

EDIT: Nope I was looking at the wrong guy.

EDIT 2: I was looking at the right guy, but at the age he debuted

EDIT 3: At least he doesn't seem to walk people...Idk, just looking for positives at this point

Fausto!!!!!

Not to mention he lied originally about how old he was. Who knows if he's actually only 33.

Phillies take Kevin Munson in the R5 Draft. Sounds like maybe #5 starter or bullpen guy? Honestly never heard of this kid, as is the case with most of the R5 guys. Phillies also lost Seth Rosin to the Mets in the draft.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Munson

So...

Hamels
Lee
Gonzalez
Kendrick
Hernandez

Munson being the next guy in when the injuries happen? Who knows?
