You know you're in the south when...

...there's a benediction at a hockey game. We were up and ready for "O say can you see" and instead it was "Dear Heavenly Father." We prayed for the troops overseas, the health of the players, and the dear fan in section 102 who recently had a heart attack. Then someone from the (had to be Baptist) church sang the anthem.

This was tonight at Johnstown Chiefs at Augusta Lynx by the way.

ECHL: Evangelical Christian Hockey League.

Thanks for the heads-up. I will never ever ever attend a Lynx game.

Only adequate.

If you want good anthem singing, go to Nashville. No kidding, it's like a concert every time.

I always have a good time up there. The stoppages and intermissions are not nearly as annoying as they are in Philips, Gwinnett, and most other arenas, as well.

What do you expect, anyone who sings the National Anthem there either has a record deal or is trying to get one....

Exactly. In fact, if I recall correctly, once when I was there I heard the Dixie Chicks before they were big.

Nashville's atmosphere is awesome. Everything from the crowd getting surly and chanting "Shoot the damn puck" during the power play (they had a huge banner that said it too, it was great!). And I liked mascot riding a four-wheeler onto the ice after a win. You were in the south and you knew it. It makes "Blueland" look like the plastic marketing scheme that it is. Apparently I love redneck hockey over Madison avenue marketing. I am glad they are in a different conference, gives me a team to appreciate in the west.

They weren't playing the Thrashers that night, they played the Av's. I got to see it with "virgin eyes" and no bias. It was a great time.

Didn't know they can ambush you like that, did you?

The Lord is good - as long as the Thrash win...and I have a good life in general...

But no mention was made of the game's outcome in the prayer. I would argue it didn't work, since a player left the game with injury (Coleman).

No word on how Ms. 102 is doing.
