The Rail cam.

Versus used the rail cam in one of their games. Do you like it ?

Someone fix the contrast..... I think I'm blind.

Better version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rag_Y...elated&search=

And the answer would be YES!
I feel alot closer to the action.

Edit: Actualy I feel like I just missed my backcheck on Modano.

That`s a close as you'll ever get to seeing what the players see.

I don't think the difference is really THAT great and besides, I hate looking at the ugly black rail interfering with the action on the ice whenever the camera angle isn't from the rail cam itself.

...

I prefer the standard camera angle... also I really enjoy the camera angle behind the net they use sometimes. I love it on powerplays!

I like the behind the net camera too, but if MTL is on the PK, it scares the living crap out of me.

I'm really suprised that some people dont like it. I think this is the closest to an on the ice/in game point of view you can get. Personaly I think it also does an awesome job convaing the speed of the game.

If the NHL had any marketing intelligence, they'd watch how the NFL produces a game for T.V, and copy it.

You could have incredible camera angles, closeups that would blow the fans away.

But no, lets stick to the same broadcasting angles they've had since the 1940's.

I like it a lot, but I'm not sure I'd like to watch a whole game like that though ... Just seeing a couple of plays looks awesome, but a whole game ... I dunno...

I really doubt it would be for whole games.

It's great for replays, I'm not sure if I'd like it for a full game.

i think thats why i don't like it as much, it just seems to close and makes it harder to determine the space between players, pucks, etc....

Yup, I don't like it. Too difficult or impossible to follow the entire play, plus the camera isn't quick enough to follow passes. You can't even see the puck going in the nets a lot of times. A big no-no from me.

P.S. I've seen that entire COL-DAL game on Versus and couldn't handle it really.

But...that's pretty close to what the players see. You'd see passing lanes as the develop...not the easy way we do from a birds eye view.

I can just imagine that rail cam following Tucker on the wing and see him get flattend and stoped dead in his tracks by Komo. And the camera moving on...heh

If I wanted to see what players see, I would go and play a game of hockey(which I do by the way). But when I want to chill on a couch and analyze a game, I prefer seeing as much ice as possible to make it easier for me to see things as they happen.

P.S. I love far camera they use in NFL games. Perfect for watching all of a play develop.

I see that the cam is going faster then if it was a human behind, that it follow the play quicker and change angles a lot
