So, WKU goes 8-4 but gets no bowl invite, or did I miss something?

As a Kentuckian, that kinda makes me mad, but as a Murray grad, it makes me smile...

That's correct, only the top 2 teams in the Sun Belt made it to a bowl game, Arkansas State & Louisiana Lafayette

I know in past years bowls were scraping the 6-6 teams just to fill all of their slots. Are there less bowls or just more bowl eligible teams this year?

I honestly had to look it up (wikipedia) ... So there are 30 Non-BCS Bowl Games ... and 11 more proposed Bowl games (4 starting next year) on top of the BCS Bowl games ... turning into the NHL ... mediocrity is rewarded

The rules are that Bowls can sign affiliations with particular conferences, and they're only allowed to go to 6-6 teams if there are no affiliated teams with winning records.

The Sun Belt Conference doesn't have a whole lot of Bowl affiliations - which is sad, in a sense.

MTSU got passed over a few times as well when they were eligible.

JW pointed out that conferences must fulfill their bowl affiliations first, even if it means that a 6-6 team from that conference goes to a bowl while an 8-4 team in another conference stays home.

However, if a conference does not have enough bowl eligible teams, the slot would shift to "At Large", in which case the bowl must take an 8 win team before it takes a 6 win team. That rule changed the season AFTER MTSU was snubbed in that same situation

Three teams (Toledo, UT-San Antonio, and WKU) had winning records but were not selected for Bowl games. There were seven other teams with 6-6 records that didn't get selected for a Bowl game - and four of them were from the Sun Belt Conference. And, of course, there was Penn State.

In theory, they could have filled two to three additional games with teams, but the question is: who'd want to watch Toledo take on Texas State?

Shaw started in the NFL then moved to the college. He was hired by Jim Harbaugh, who also left the Cardinal to coach in the NFL and has done a really good job so far in the NFL.
