Stat of the week...

Malik is a +17 - and arguably has been one of the worst defensemen on this team this season.

I felt the same way about Roszileetch last year, and the numbers are definitely not everything, but there has to be some middle ground to all this. Meaning, these guys are exactly what we have them pegged as - 2nd or 3rd(4th to a degree) pairing D-men.

It's weird, but he does play when the main offensive line is on the ice so

It just seems...

that Malik is out there for the most odd-man rushes and gets beat a lot, but is out there when the other team isn't scoring, and when the Rangers are - even if you can't see him doing anything. He has a knack.

further shows that it is not always a reliable stat. It can be if you look at it the right way. I.E. Nylander's +, -. Someone that almost always contributes to his line.

Shanny is like a minus 4.

I guess he hasn't been too responsible in his own zone, huh? ;-)

These are all perfect examples of how 'icetime' plays a part in the +/- category. Shanny has played a ton, so of course he's gonna have his minuses. Malik & Rosy are on Jagr's line, teams don't press against them, most of the time opponents hang back and that pair gets a more relaxed attack compared to our other D-men.

He kills penalties, the stat is not fair to Shanahan.

You don't get a plus or minus for being on the ice during a PP goal.

Like Roszival last year, this has to be a result of the fact he is usually on the ice with the Jagr line.

Malik is slow in his own end, and absolutely worthless from the redline out. We need someone else with Roszival on that 5 man unit.

or...

He also missed a good portion of the 7 game losing streak..

Malik is awful but wouldn't that make up for how wacked out the number is compared to everybody else?

Good point, I didn't think of that. Maybe not having Malik was the reason we had that 7 game losing streak?

Great minds think alike.

I said that about Rozsival last year as well, and got bashed for it.

I wonder where those people are now.

i think the fans still love malik because of his shootout goal last year which really was no big deal if anyone has been to a open practice anyone can do that he just had the guts to try it in a game kudos to him but what has he done since then

Malik skates like frankinstein, can't shoot for ****, isn't tough at all, can't clear the crease, etc........

Exactly what I was thinking. Coincidence? Perhaps not.

Nah, I don't know about that, play Kaspar in his role and I think he would be seriously exposed.

That unit is great, in general Malik works out well on it too.
