All-Star starting rosters announced

Goal Ryan Miller Buffalo 539,635
Defense Brian Campbell Buffalo 602,982
Defense Sheldon Souray Montreal 534,647
Forward Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh 825,783
Forward Daniel Briere Buffalo 475,857
Forward Alex Ovechkin Washington 475,279

Rangers who missed out:

Jaromir Jagr, NYR 321,578
Brendan Shanahan, NYR 174,450

So neither of them were voted starters, but I'd imagine they'll make the team easily. A little surprised to see Jagr finish 7th among forwards, with Afinogenov, Malkin and Drury all garnering more votes.

West:
Goal Roberto Luongo Vancouver 484,861
Defense Scott Niedermayer Anaheim 591,657
Defense Nicklas Lidstrom Detroit 573,069
Forward Joe Thornton San Jose 663,931
Forward Joe Sakic Colorado 473,847
Forward Jonathan Cheechoo San Jose 444,885

Rory Fitzpatrick missed by just 23,000 votes . He was the third highest vote-getter.

WAIT. But Rory will make the team, right? Boy did those Sabre fans vote hard. Luongo shouldn't be starting and I take Pronger over Nidermayer

Rory would only make it if by some off chance he is picked by the GMs and coaches.

Don't worry, their All-Stars on Tom's team, where all the negative fans votes count as positives

I also have to say those lists are a joke. Prom queen popularity contest, has nothing to do with the actual skill or performance of the season for the hockey player.

I'm not surprised to see Briere, Afinogenov and Drury receive more votes than Jagr, they all have one common factor. And Miller in front of Brodeur, the same factor. Chechoo in the starting lineup in the West is also quite laughable.

Straka to be snubbed for All-Star Game???

Ok, so I read this artice announcing the All-Star starting rosters. It's bad enough that DANIEL BRIERE is starting over Jagr, but then I read how the "experts" picks DO NOT include Marty Straka. Straka is 8th in the whole league in points, and is one of the hardest working players I've ever seen on the ice. He never stops skating, and to me, is the definition of "All-Star".

starters:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/allstar2007/index

experts picks to round out teams:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/allsta...ott&id=2725919

How can you snub Shanny, Nylander, AND STRAKA?????

This makes no sense...

It could just be the well known Ranger haters at ESPN..but..

Do you think Straka will actually be snubbed?

What could happen is Jagr gets selected to go, but opts out, and Straka gets to take his place.

Miller over Marty....... absolute BS!

This "All-Star" game is more of a popularity contest than the student elections when I was in high school.

I've never been a fan of fan selections for the all-star game.

It's hard because you could really make a case for Straka, Jagr and Shanahan and to a lesser extent Nylander but all 4 aren't going.

Heck right now I'm not even sure if Shanny is going to end up going.

Agreed, makes no sense to me.

Fans should be forced to vote for 2 players in each position on the ballet, that way they cant stuff the box for their own players, and those votes count for half of the total at the end.

Im sorry but Cheecho in the West is a starter? Cmon. He had a great year last year, this year he is not an All Star IMO

And uh... that guy over in Jersey is #1 in the league and has like what - 34 shutouts this season?

Wow how stupid.

I hate the Devils and im even disturbed about that. Thats when you know its all ********.

Unfortunatley, there is no way to limit fans to just two votes. If you have paper ballots, fans can still stuff the boxes. If you have online voting, there will always be a way for people to work their way around any restrictions.

They should probably just do away with fan voting all together. But honestly, who cares, the All-Star game is stupid anyway. The only thing I kind of enjoy watching is some of the skills competition, that's it.

Why are some of you guys getting so worked up? The All-Star game has always sucked. The only ones who care are the bratty kids and corporate execs who will be filling the seats that night at the American Airlines Center.

Skills competition I like though.

Well it's kind of hard because the Rangers are a tale of two groups.

Straka, Nylander, Shanny and Jagr have all played like all-stars, but 3 or 4 players aren't going from one team, especially a team like the Rangers.

The rest of the team is far down in scoring.

It's a really weird situation.

Which nine forwards should be added to the Eastern Conference All-Star team? (VOTE FOR NINE PLAYERS)

63.9% Jaromir Jagr, NY Rangers
53.9% Marian Hossa, Atlanta
51.1% Ilya Kovalchuk, Atlanta

At least Jagr is leading the votes here.
