Andrew MacDonald is an interesting target. He's a UFA-to-be If I'm not mistaken. He's had a down year, but in the past has shown he can play tough minutes. He's also got a decent break out.

If by some chance he makes it to UFA, I'd love to add him to the blueline. Maybe a risk, but I'd be good with it.

It's funny, when you take away everything else, we're a bad team that's not doing anything to get better. It's like if you've been sick for three weeks but you won't see a doctor because things will "sort themselves out."

It's pretty simple... We need to get better defensively. Sadly, trading for a defenceman is too bold for old MacT.

Agreed, I would give Macdonald a try for sure.

The only real asset I can think of moving is Petry. Bob talked about not being sure Petry would "get there".

IMO,Petry probably has a pretty high trade value at the deadline. Might even get us a Braydon Schenn.
I used to be on the #2 Center bandwagon, but my god the defensive corps is terrible.

Is there another team in the NHL that is less of a threat from the point than our boys?

Phaneuf-MacDonald
Girardi-Petry
Ference-J. Schultz

doesn't look horrible, but 3/3 of those UFAs wouldn't come here because who would?

I get the feeling he thinks the oilers will try to improve the d through free agency, where #2C can only be acquired via trade

The more I hear about him the more I want Draisaitl. We missed out on Monohan this year and to me the opportunity to draft a 1b Centerman is too hard to pass up.

If Leon and Ekblad and Reinhart are gone then I trade it.

In a perfect world, this is where I'd have the guys we do:

Hall - #1C - #1RW
Perron - RNH - Eberle
#3LW - Gordon - #3RW
Smyth/Gazdic - #4C - Jones
Joensuu

#1LD - #1RD
Ference - Petry
Schultz - Schultz
Belov

Bryz/Dubnyk

I'd like to move Yakupov, Gagner, Hemsky and the 2014 1st for some help filling the holes.

Maybe take a run at Brad Richards in the off-season if he gets bought out, and look at Ott, Girardi, Markov and Phaneuf as well.

Sign Phaneuf 7-8m
Sign Bryzgalov for 4m
Hemsky (50% ret) + Omark + 2015 3rd (if they don't resign) to DET for Abdelkader (no idea on value)
Sign Setoguchi 2.8m
Sign Fiddler 2m
Sign Khudobin 3m

Our 2C position will still be weak but I doubt we'll get a legit 2C this offseason. So we will have to make due.

Didn't Fiddler request a trade out of Dallas at least twice due to low playing time? Why would he sign on to be a 4th line centre if that's the case?

For what it's worth, Friedman mentioned the Oilers trying to deal Omark in 30 Thoughts today also, as well as on Hotstove Tonight on Saturday.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hoc...r-on-jets.html

The Fourth Period also had tweets about Omark asking for a trade, and MacT trying to accommodate.

Oh man, I completely forgot that Jumbo Joe's coming up to free agency. It's probably because I figure there's about a 1% chance he actually reaches UFA, but if we could wind up signing him I'd be thrilled. Instantly patches up most of the biggest problems with our top 6.

Go look around the league not every move by the best GM's in the league are good. How is Weiss doing in the model franchise Detroit? How is Peckham, Bickell and Bulin doing in the model stanley cup franchise Chicago? Erikkson for Seguin sure looks like a win for Boston too?

Also when did Franson become a UFA?
I believe we should NEVER trade with a bad team. All decent players we have got came from decent teams.

Crap from crap teams and if a crap team is willing to move a player then I imagine crapiest players from crap teams equal the crapiest crap that ever crapped.

Middle or worst players from a great team equal at least average or better.

Joe's made way too much money to be chasing coin at this stage, especially considering he's never won a cup.

With the cap going up, imagine if Chicago had the room to sign him!

Didn't we try that with Fraser?
