I can't see either Drury or Brière for less then 5M and at that price, Brière is simply the better player. Drury's defensive game is overstated and not that good.

Good call. I don't think Drury is all that great defensively. Good, sure, and definitely tenacious, but he's not a player that can shut down an opposing star centerman, in my mind.

Well said. And briere can stay in Buffalo, I don't want another flopper like Ribeiro.

You just single-handedly told the world what the problem with soccer is. I hate divers in any sport.

His spear on Ovechkin, backing down from the fight, whining in the media, reputation for diving etc..

We got rid of one prima donna baby when we got rid of Ribeiro.
Do we really need another ?

But this is all irrelevant : we will not see a Quebec-born superstar coming to the habs in a trade. None of them have the guts to try and play here. They prefer cushy US cities with big tax breaks and fans that go easy on them even when they suck.

Of course they will say in the media that they want to play here, but every time one is a UFA, they somehow never sign here.

Montreal is a great city for quebecois role players like Begin & Bouillon. It is not so much fun for talented superstars : a lot of pressure & media scrutiny.

Kolzig is also south African, Bondra's ukranian and Heatley's german.

Makes lot of sense bro. He grew up in Quebec, it shows. Let it go.

Bouillon's Quebecois, through-and-through.

Ok , after viewing salary site , that what I find :

Players who's sign for next year :

Koivu : 4 750 000
Kovalev : 4 500 000
Murray : 625 000
Samsonov : 3 525 000
Bouillon : 1 875 000
Dandenault : 1 750 000
Streit : 600 000
Huet : 2 750 000
Begin : 1 468 000
Latendresse : 850 000

total : 22.69 millions .

RFA Players : What I project

Ryder : 2 200 000 ----> 2 500 000
Higgins : 673 000 -----> 1 200 000
Perezhogin : 627 000 --> 900 000
Plekanek : 450 000 ----> 700 000
Komisarek : 947 000 ---> 1 300 000

Total (what I project) : 6.6 millions
Big total : 29.29 millions

Salary cap project for next year : 47 millions

47-29.29= 17.71 millions .

We'll need 3 foward , 4 defence and 1 goalie with that .

Our UFA :

Johnson : 1 900 000 ---> 1 500 000
Bonk : 2 394 000 -----> Leave or 1 500 000
Downey : 450 000 ----> Leave or 450 000
Rivet : 2 470 000 ----> 2 000 000
Niinimaa : 2 508 000 ---> Leave
Souray : 2 432 000 ----> 5 500 000
Markov : 2 000 000 ----> 6 000 000
Aebischer : 1 900 000 ---> Leave

Total : 16.95 millions

mean : 17.71 - 16.95 = 0.76 millions

And we'll need a goaler and a defence .

We can't carry a Briere , but if Samsonov out and Bonk and Johnson out :

3 500 000 + 1 500 000 + 1 500 000 = 6 500 000 $

Less the player who'll remplace them :

6 500 000 - 800 000 - 800 000 - 800 000 = 4 100 000$

Briere at 4 100 000$ could be real , but ...

Anywho, Montreal is pretty much Briere's choice if Buffalo doesn't give him what they need which I hope they will.
Daniel Brière's first choice would be...Ottawa after Buffalo, not Montreal.

Grabovsky , Kostitsyn , Côté (Emelin) and Halak or Danis can remplace our UFA , but not Markov and Souray .

You guys think we can carry them ?
I hope we don't sign briere

If we sign the first 2, no way does the team have the money to spare in order to get Brière. Besides, Brière IS the Sabres. He's their heart and soul.

Well it is a different sport, there are no shifts and just a 15 minute break in 90+ of play and a gigantic field so it's a completely different dynamic. Set pieces are so important that diving is almost required. Also after a half-hour of running around, your balance isn't that great anymore. I didn't start the diving and I won't be the one to stop it.

No really, my teams were Holland and Germany. All teams dive, the media just plays up some more than others. Though that Guardian ad on the Italian team was hilarious.

Take the R out of Briere and you get Biere. I like that. Sign him. Let him win a Cup this year in Buffalo and then take that feeling to Montreal. He can play with Kovalev and (cough cough) Samsonov (insert laughter here).

There'd be room if the cap goes up.
