As a fan of both teams, it is a horrible proposal. Kings had Straka and were more then happy to see him go. He works well with Jagr why trade him. Visnovsky is one of the most sought after defencemen in the league do to his age, scoring ability and contract. L.A 's weak point is defence. As a fan of both teams it would take a package starting with Staal, not Straka to get Visnovsky in Ranger blue. Something NY fans would not accept.
Therefor: horrible deal for both teams.
P.S - Norstrom should be the type of player Ranger fans should look at, Other then Ward, the Blueshirts have no real defensive rock and Matty is a playoff beast.
you can't get visnovsky or JJ for nothing!
straka on the kings=nothing-been there done that.
visnovsky is ten times better then anything you have on D right now.
were you honestly thinking you can get either of our boys for straka...DL would laugh his *** off before hanging up on sather.

Just so you know, the proposal was made to us by some Kings fan. Can you fault us for jumping at a silly offer?
If you jumped at it then no....but most people here said that Straka has a higher value than Visnovsky......which is definitely not the case.
I agree. I think most people feel that Straka is too integral to the Rangers' "success" this season, and in that respect feel he is more valuable. I think if we were building a franchise from scratch, pretty much everyone would take Vizzo over Straka.
Come to think of it, forget about the Kings... right now is the optimal time to move Straka if you ever plan on doing it.
He almost left the NHL last year, he might do it this year or next and incredibly, hes stayed healthy for the past 2 seasons. Of course its a huge risk and all depends on what you get back - after all he IS only 34 and is having a TREMENDOUS year.
Dont look now, but hes on pace for about 100 points.

I think we ought to move Shanny as well, and eventually Jagr. Crazy, I know, I'm crazy... I just don't like the core of players on this team, so I want a fire sale! I know it won't happen, it's just me wishing aloud.

I hear what you are saying, but Shanny should stay in my book.
Say you DO have a fire sale.... you're still gonna need a veteran or two to captain the team, Shanny could be that man.
But honestly i dont see any of that happening. New York needs a star player. Right now its Jagr.
I dont see 2 "fire sales" in 5 years. Sather wont make himself look like a fool.
You guys are on crack if you think Straka for JJ or Straka and a 1st are going to land JJ. Straka is way past his prime! JJ is going to be a franchise D-man! Start upping the price if you even expect the Kings to look at this deal!!!

Again, it was proposed to us by one of your fans...not our idea
is Lubo an impending UFA? Hardly worth us trading Straka for (who is one of our best players and also impending UFA). Fair value for one of the top d-men in the league but i don't know if that's the trade to save our season. Besides, I'm sure the Kings could get much more for a player of his calibre. Are the Kings taking any of our d-men in such an exchange?

No, one of "our fans" proposed Lubo for Straka. One of your fans (JerseyRangers) proposed JJ for Straka, which is what CaliCash was referring to.
Lubo has one year left after this one and is on probably the best non-rookie contract in the league. He makes about 1.9m for this and next year. Similar players make 4 to 6 million. (See: Niedermayer, McCabe, Zubov, etc.)
NAME GP G A PTS +/- PIM ATOI
S. Niedermayer 45 7 33 40 13 42 27:42
L. Visnovsky 42 13 23 36 -2* 12 24:12
Sergei Zubov 43 7 23 30 -1 14 25:18
*It should also be noted that Dan Cloutier has pretty much been responsible for the Kings' woes. For example, in this case, Lubomir Visnovsky is +8 in game where Dan Cloutier does not participate.

Yes, because offensive stats tell the complete story when it comes to defensemen.
Watch these three d-men play a few games and it should become obvious why Niedermayer and Zubov are probably headed for the HOF and Visnovsky is not.
As for your previous post about how "similar" d-men make 4-6 million: all of the players you list are post-UFA, which makes them NOT comparable at all.
As an unbiased fan of neither team, I'd say your expectations for 1.5 years of Lubo's service are WAY too high. Staal and a first rounder? Dream on. You'll get more than a 1st, but way less than Staal.
Well these three are offensive D-men, so offense plays a big part in their game.
I've watched plenty of games with Lubo and Nieds. Many with Zubov as well. I don't really see Zubov are a HoF guy either.
Why aren't they comparable? I don't see what post-UFA and pre-UFA have to do with this. Lubo makes half to a third of his market value. I don't see how that's inaccurate to say.

Good for you.
Zubov not a hall of fame guy?
Tell that to his 708 points in only 977 games, and 2 Stanley Cups, and by the time he's done, at the rate he's scoring, 1,000 points is not out of the equation.
Can you name the last defenseman to score a point per game or more to lead his team in scoring?
The answer, Sergei Zubov in 94, 89 points was the leading regular season scorer for the 94 Cup Winning Rangers.
I watched him for a bit as a Ranger, and I've watched him in Dallas, he's definitely hall of fame material.
