My 2 yo Galaxy Nexus is beginning to act up - and may force me to get a new phone earlier than I planned (and before I have time to really research the issue). Among other things, it has occasionally had temperature and battery drain issues - spiking a temp 46-51 degC and draining a full charge in ~2-3 hrs idle use w/ screen off.

Due to coverage issues and a sweet grandfathered in plan I'm pretty much restricted to Verizon.

It looks like my best current options seem to be the Samsung S4 or the HTC One. Any recommendation between the two? Any other recommendations?

How intrusive (or useful) are the UI/bloatware on these (TouchWiz & Sense)? I've gotten spoiled by the Nexus. Which would be a less intrusive change? I don't have time to look into rooting/roms right now.

S4 is bloated - mostly carrier **** - but you can root it and remove the crap ware.

Rooting is harder in the U.S since the bootloader is locked there.

I have no performance issue on my S4 (stock unrooted)

Nice stuff guys

Sined, I want to see your emails tbh

And you have 2 Habs notifications : " Desharnais loses battle along the boards " and " It's December 17th and Desharnais is still **** "

As for weather widgets, most of them don't show the "real feel" temperature; I use 1weather and it's awesome

Goddamnit... I still need to root, but it starts to suck when there are at least 2 or 3 updates from Verizon ahead of what I have now .

I'm going to say S4. I don't remember him saying he was getting a Note 3.

I turn it to EDGE because my work building blocks basically every radio wave in existence. EDGE has decent penetration into the building, somehow, though. LTE and HSPA just die. CDMA (any Verizon or Sprint) people don't get anything, either.

That's the major drawback of frequencies with huge bandwidth:poor wall penetration.

Luckily my apartment doesn't block a lot of signal or i would be screwed since my carrier no longer supports EDGE.

I used to work in a building right by tower bridge in London and there was huge areas of no coverage. o2, vodafone all had nothing I think just EE had reception in buildings.

Just be glad they don't build buildings like they used to.

On mine, in FB App top left, click menu button and to the right of "news feed" option is a gear button. Click that and you should see "top stories" or "most recent" as options.

I've had an S3 for about a year but haven't played around with it all

I don't know much when it comes to smartphones

Anybody have any recommendations for where to look to get started? I'm an old fart now when it comes to these gadgets!

Also the most recent Android OS update took away my mutlilanguage keyboard that was stock with the previous update, now I can't message in French and it's a considerable pain to do so; anybody else have this problem since the update?
