What actors do you avoid? I've tried to supply some, but I'm counting on you guys to tell me who you avoid. Some possible choices are:

Nicholas Cage, Will Ferrell, Shia Labeouf, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Rihanna (not her music), Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jackson Rathbone (the Last Airbender and Twilight), Jessica Alba, Sandra Bullock, The Jonas Brothers, Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller (G.I. Joe), Billy Ray Cyrus, Mike Myers, and Paris Hilton.

None.

I watch movies based on the plot and the genre, not who's in it.

This, actually.

For example, I detest Sean Penn for some reason I can't figure out but he is amazing in a lot of his movies I've seen.

Agreed. Some think that if he didn't direct he could have been the best actor in the next generation younger than DeNiro. I tried to supply a good selection of non critics choices, but if you guys don't avoid actors, cool.

Agree with this.

I really don't like Nicholas Cage though; he has had a couple of decent performances, but the vast majority of the time he annoys the hell out of me whenever he is on screen.

Avoid like the plague:

Adam Sandler--because his movies are so bad and I dislike his particular brand of humour anyway

Will Farrell--same boat as Sandler, slightly more sea worthy

With some extremely rare exceptions (some early Eddie Murphy movies, for instance), former Saturday Night Live comedians turned actors in general

All those people in US "guy" comedies who I can't even name (Zach whatshisname, et al), except occasionally Bradley Cooper

The Paris Hilton types don't count because I don't watch their movies anyway.

Sylvester Stallone and Robin Williams frequently try way too hard and it shows

Quentin Tarantino is pretty bad. Enthusiasm does not equal talent.

Guys like Hayden Christensen, Ashton Kutcher and Stephen Seagal seem so bad that it's not even fair to pick on them.

Real actors whom I watch but who make me nervous

Tom Hanks--yes, he is terrific in Captain Phillips, but he takes too many soft roles seemingly to protect his image as a nice guy

Christian Bale--who can be very good when he isn't chewing up the scenery. He requires a director with a firm hand on the wheel.

Tom Cruise--I like Tom Cruise. However, he is past his "best by" date for action movies. It happens to all of those guys--Eastwood, Arnie, Harrison Ford and others. They all stay too long at the dance, though once they get over this stage they can become good/entertaining actors once again.

Paul Giamatti: It's like I can always see the wheels going around.

David Caruso, at least in that Miami cop show on TV: What must it be like trying to act opposite this guy? I'm surprised a co-star hasn't shot him or beaten him up.

Dead actors whom I handle with care

Laurence Olivier--late in his career he couldn't control his contempt for the roles he was taking just to make money

Jimmy Stewart--usually I like him, but he has a near hysterical side that drives me up the wall

Orson Welles--too frequently the very definition of "ham"

Sandy Dennis--few on this board will ever have heard of her or remember her (the actress who was not Liz Taylor in Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). She is a method actor whose only move is sniveling constantly. Almost impossible to watch without averting one's eyes.

Other people's bad actors whom I like a lot

Keenu Reeves--He played Hamlet once. True, it was in Winnipeg. But just sayin'.....

Kristen Stewart. Awful, awful actress. Her entire range is looking constipated.

I'm also proud to say I have avoided most Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. I liked True Lies, except he was the worst part of it.

Yeah, same here for Sean Penn.

Shia Lebouf, on the other hand, I will avoid out of hand because the majority of his movies are garbage. What's-her-name from Twilight is getting close to that status because she is a legitimately terrible actress.

Jay Baruchel. His voice is so damn nasal it hurts. He nearly managed to destroy a perfectly good movie in How To Train Your Dragon.

The people that Judd Apatow seems to manage to cast in every movie always makes me weary when I see their faces. But maybe that's because they are always in Judd Apatow movies?

I try to avoid Leo Dicaprio because I haven't liked him since they brought him onto Growing Pains. Haven't really bought into any role he's played (though I've seen enough movies with him, since I don't actively avoid any movie). Plus I don't really keep up to date with my Hollywood gossip enough to know who's the "it thing" of the moment anyway.

Sean Penn has always been a jerk and it comes out in his acting. Ditto for George Clooney. Just don't like watching them on film at all.

Pauly Shore is...well...Pauly Shore. 'Nuff said. There's actually a few actors in this category, like Jim Varney back when he played Ernest P. Worrel or Paul Reubens in his PeeWee Herman days. People who think they're funny when they're not.

Don't usually care for "it thing" actors, like Shia Lebeouf. Very often can't act. But it's hard to avoid their movies as you don't know until you've seen them in a couple that they suck.

Don't like Vin Diesel - man is utterly lacking in on-screen charisma.

And though I don't avoid his movies, I don't really think Brad Pitt's anything to write home about in terms of acting talent.

If the movie is rated well and looks interesting then I'll watch it regardless of who's in it.

I'm more likely to watch a movie if someone is in it than not watch one because someone is in it. I'm more likely to watch a film if it has Bill Murray or Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly or DiCaprio for example but I'm not gonna avoid a movie because it has Tom Cruise or someone in it (excluding Nick Cage....his movies really are worth avoiding).

I seem to avoid directors more than I do actors... some times bad actors can still pull out good roles/parts

Do you mean just as an actor, or his movies all together? Obviously his acting is absolute trash, but I think his movies are fantastic. He was REALLY distracting in Django.

For me it is Cage. He was really good in Adaptation and Raising Arizona, but aside from that he is distracting to me.
