Line-up for next match-soft 4th line

According to TVA, these are the lines for next match:

Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais - Brendan Gallagher
Alex Galchenyuk - Tomas Plekanec - Brian Gionta
Rene Bourque - Lars Eller - Brandon Prust
Michaël Bournival - Daniel Brière - Travis Moen

http://tvasports.ca/hockey/canadiens...-trio-18122013

Pretty soft 4th line. Are they trying to role 4 offensive lines? What are they trying to achieve with Briere? This line up really calls in to question the acquisition of Briere. We could have gotten a much better 4th line centre if we needed it. Seems like we want a new Gomez ... or we are trying to inspire Briere to work his way up the chart.

Bournival and Briere on the same line would just be a continuing excuse for Therrien to roll 3 lines, I would guess.

I liked it when we had a good hard-working 4th line that would roll 10 mins. So often it's just a grab-bag of doghouse players, goons, callups or youngsters that doesn't play much. Sometimes that's unavoidable. But not atm...

I'm just glad MT kept the two top lines intact they were great together

I'd just switch Brière and Prust, as you said so we can have a more physical/energy fourth line.

I guess it doesn't really matter which line he starts the game on if he ends up being invisible and gets only 4 minutes of ice time. I like Briere as a player but he's been a horrible fit like most predicted. Really don't know what's gonna happen with him, but we can only hope he suddenly catches fire and forces the team to use him in a more prominent and effective role. I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do in gionta's place on the Plekanec line though. I like Gio too but he hasn't been himself this season and I think could benefit from a reduced role, the opposite of wasting Briere on the 4th line.

I don't mind it if Briere is given a chance to work his way to that Eller line, if Therrien is just going to play him 4th line all game I'd rather he just straight up scratch him and let White play.

...White shouldn't be sitting, Briere should, and Bournival & Prust should switch lines...

When it comes to the bottom 2 lines, MT has 0 patience. The last 5 games he's juggled the 3rd and 4th lines after the 1st period. Hard to gain chemistry with anyone having different linemates within one game every game.

Why can't we have a normal strong defensive 4th line????

Wouldn't mind rolling with a bottom 6 looking like this

Rene Bourque - Lars Eller - Daniel Brière
Brandon Prust-Michaël Bournival - Travis Moen

Expecting Briere to produce on the 4th line especially without PP time is pretty out there.

I kinda hope that rumour of Briere asking for a trade is true. If we could package him for something that could actually help our team it would be golden. There must be some team out there looking for a 2nd line centre who would take a flier on him.

That 3rd line has tremendous puck possession potential, which going to be important against st Louis.

I think briere will be parked for most of the game with bournival and moen filling in the other lines depending on performance.

At least Brière is at center.....but then again, why try it against St-Louis.
Makes me think when he tried Galchenyuk at center against St-Louis .

The Briere signing was an horrible mistake. Not so much because of the contract or his aptitudes as a player, but because MT obviously does not want him on the team or just doesn't know how and were to use it.

Seriously. Briere, fourth line center? Cmon Michel!

He'd be much more valuable if it were the last year on his contract. He could be shipped at the deadline to a playoff team for a premium (people would be surprised, he has quite the playoff resume).

Tsn is saying Toronto is looking for a center. And they have wingers and D in surplus.

Yeah, the top 3 lines look good, but that 4th line. Of course the lines will alter during the

kinda funny considering we have a hard time scoring more than a goal per game lately, don't you think ?

Not really, as I think a strong big winger with some abilities to snipe would help us a lot. We have too many centres: DD, Plecks, Eller, Briere, White (and that doesn't include Chucky who is destined to be a centre at some point, perhaps even this season if he starts to improve on FOs and defensive responsibility). We need scoring wingers, as we really only have Patches, Gallagher (sometimes), and Chucky of late, who as I said is moving towards being a centre. The rest of our wingers haven't produced much scoring, but we have a lot of good forecheckers and 2-way players. If we could move Briere and some other assets for a big sniper with some term on his contract, then we would be a much more rounded offensive team.

I wonder if this recent move of Briere to centre of the 4th line isn't in response to Briere complaining that he isn't playing centre, and it is a chance to get a look at what he can do. Perhaps it is so that he can challenge for one of the upper lines (DD or Eller), or potentially showcase his or some other centres forward capabilities. The other option would be to move Eller to wing, but I am not too sure if he would like that, or what it would do for his development.

Toronto could be a good trading partner, but to be honest I don't know if any other team in the league needs a 2nd line centre, or if we can even move him because of some NTC.

Guaranteed offensive juggernaut

Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais (O Killer) - Brendan Gallagher
Alex Galchenyuk - Tomas Plekanec - Brian Gionta (O Killer)
Rene Bourque (O Killer) - Lars Eller - Brandon Prust (O killer)
Michaël Bournival - Daniel Brière - Travis Moen (O Killer)

Why do we need to handicap all our lines from scoring?

How about we stack 2 lines so we have a chance at scoring 5 on 5

Pacs Pleks Briere
Chucky Eller Gally
Bourque DD Prust
Moen Bournival Gionta

I'd put Briere with Bourque so they can keep being inept together. Give them lots of ice time if we're losing by 3-4 goals. Put Bourni with Prust and Eller. The "at least we care" line, I would name them.

Other options I like:
MaxPac - DD - Gally
Chuck - Pleks - Bourni (I like that)
Moen - Eller - Prust (send them to tire opposing dmen)
Bourque - Briere - Gionta (The abyss)

And yea White shouldn't be sitting.

It's crazy how blatant MT is with playing favorites. How Briere has been handled is an absolute joke. Wouldn't be suprrised if MT's a reason why FAs wouldn't come to Habland.

Briere is being used exactly the same way Philly used him last season when it became apparent that he just wasn't very good anymore. Players earn their ice time or lack thereof.....it is the same on any decent team and it is expected by the players.

Briere doesn't even deserve to be on the 4th line.
