At the time: Yes, absolutely.

In hindsight: You could go either way. I'll still say yes. The main problems are Sather's ability to replace the talent/grit that they moved to Columbus, and Nash recent head injuries.

In the end you moved Dubnisky who was coming off of a horrible season who was significantly overpaid. Anisimov was a 2nd/3rd line tweener center. Tim Erixon who hasn't established himself and a mid-first rounder.

Yes, i'm talking in hindsight, but I wouldn't make the move. Not because Nash is bad-- he was good in the shortened year, but his contract is massive and he probably won't live up to it, so we'll be stuck with a fringe playoff team.

edit- I will agree i'm more upset with Hank, Steps, Cally and everyone else, though. I still just don't think Nash has been or will be 7.8 million dollars a year good.

I wonder if he's a little "gunshy" after the concussions. He's definitely not utilizing his size at all or engaging physically. He's been pretty much a perimeter player the past couple of weeks.

Add Anisimov, Erixon and a 1st and I don't do that trade.
Nash is hurt slot but Dubi is too. He stunk the past two yrs, yea good this yr but he may stink again next. He makes too much too

It was a reasonable, calculated risk IMO. He's still Rick Nash and we can still get back a hockey grab bag that isn't much lower in value than the one we gave away.

It would be easy to say we don't need Nash if Gaborik was still healthy and playing well for us. He's gone and the Rangers really need some sort of offensive weapon.

He didn't stink last year for Columbus. He was hurt but he put up 20 points in 29 games, took over 400 face offs and won over 58%, was the BJs top PKer and had well over 2 hits per game. He's only had one bad season in his entire career. He has had some trouble staying healthy though.

Yes, assuming it is the same deal.

Nash needs to up his game. But not nearly as much as some of his teammates.
The type of game this team is trying to play because of players like Nash is a reason for all those other guys' struggles.

It made a helluva lot more sense to let Gaborik do his thing and score goals while demanding a safe, grinding style from the rest of the roster as opposed to trying to get guys to play an offensive game who aren't cut out for it.

So this whole collection of players who have been consistently good throughout their careers are playing awful and the coach isn't responsible?

Do you sincerely think this is a massive collection of individual slumps that are coincidentally happening at the same time? is it bad luck? Did the team bus crash through a mirror factory or something?

The Rangers reached the ECF, and in within 1 year, Sather had swaped a quarter of our team with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

There's no rectifying that.

Well, it's not that simple. The year they made it to the ECF, they didn't have to deal with Boston or Pitt. On top of that, Gaborik's game took a giant nosedive the next year.

I'd definitely do that trade again. And when we do this poll for the third, fourth, and nth time, I'd vote the same way.

I see a lot of words like Elite Goal Scorer or Game changer being thrown around in this thread. I had to go back and make sure we were discussing the same Rick Nash who plays for the NYR

He has been an utter flop here. I see no elite game changing skills at all. If anything he is a floater. A 6 foot + 200 pound + floater. There is no edge to his game.

The answer is NO I do not make that trade. He was a complete no show in the playoffs, he disappears for long stretches and that stupid pivot move to go to the center of the ice that he ALWAYS tries hardly ever works. How hard is to make that move and dish the puck ? Yet he never seems to even be thinking about the players moving around him. Add to that he now has a concussion history and is playing scared.

Seems like the trade is being viewed in a vacuum here. A lot of you would fit perfectly on Sather's staff.

I didn't like the trade when it happened then I warmed up to Nash eventually but now I'd say I'm back to not liking the trade.

As well as Richards. Both who seemingly would not be with us this year because of contract situations.

At the end of 2011-12. Prust was gone (rightfully so with how much he now makes) Feds was gone and Dubi, Ani ,and Erixon were gone for an elite talent Nash.

I can't fault Sather for making that trade or even the Gaby trade. The players we have right now are not skilled or tough enough.

I put a spider in my vacuum this morning, I'd ask him what it was like but he didn't survive the process (also, I don't speak spider)....

Probably because it best embodies the make a move, deal with the consequences later, mentality of this organization.

AV was hired in a vacuum - does it tickle your fancy now?
