I was looking over the LIST of UFA for this summer and I just wanted to know what you guys would think of this team if these UFA sighed with us at the right price.
1. Resign Shanny
2. Resign Straka
3. Hopefully Nylander picks up his player option.
4. Ortmeyer
You free up salary with not re-signing
Weeks, Ozolonsh, Ward
You make offers to...
Eric Brewer, Chris Phillips, Vitaly Vishnevski or Sheldon Souray
Peter Forsberg, Scott Gomez, Daniel Briere or Pavel Datsyuk
Try to trade the following or send them to the minors
Marek Malik (might net us a draft pick)
Kaspar (Waive him/Send him down)
Roszival (Hopefully will net us a draft pick)

I also think that that lineup is not feasable in the salary cap world.
4.94 for Jagr
At least 4 for Shanny
At least 3.5 for Straka
Nylander is not going to pick up his option and will command at least 3
Souray will get at least 5 or more
Visnevski (sp) will get 2 or 3
Forsberg will get 6
Ward gets like 3
Cullen gets 3
Lundqvist is up for a raise (Probably 3 or 4) from his entry level contract as is Prucha Probably 2 to 2.5).
Thats like 42 mil for only 11 players. Not to mention Sather will never trade Malik or Rosy so their salaries are going nowhere. What about the kids as well? Dawes, Dubbie, Korpi, Callahan. Where do they fit in. The Rangers going after Forsberg and his glass groin and ankle would be the biggest mistake this team has made in ages.
the only reason i may not want Shanny back is i actualy feel bad for him that he is on the Rangers team. He could be on a team thats going somewhere, a team that actualy has some heart. I dont think Shanny want to be with us after this year.... suck a ****ing shame

True dat, I doubt Shanny will want back. I think he came here because he thought he'd play an integral role in helping this franchise win another Cup. When we've finished the season by being swept out of the first round yet again, I seriously doubt he'll have any interest in re-signing.
Nice wish list...If we could only sign one player Briere, Gomez or Drury would fit just right. And Rozival isn't going anywhere---anyone else notice how the carping about him on the board has all but disappeared lately?

Rosie is alright, although playing next to Malik, anything short of scoring on yourself will make you appear to be a Hall of Famer.
I realize this a forum for all opinions but if you think that blueprint makes any sense then I am glad you aren't the Rangers GM
My comment offered no opinion to whether or not the blueprint was wise, simply that it was a plan that attempted to address the team's shortcomings. This, in contrast to what I see as a team with no direction, caused by a lack of a long-term strategy from the top down. But this is a message board, so I understand people tend to read way too far into certain comments.
I'd like to see the Rangers acquire a prominent free agent defensemen really. They don't have a defensemen on the roster that can log 25 + minutes a night and I think that would be great for this team.
I think that next year's D squad should look like this:
Michal Rozsival, Thomas Pock, Fedor Tyutin, Aaron Ward, Marc Staal, and then clearly there would be room for a free agent pick up to pair with Tyutin as a top pairing.
Marek Malik, Karel Rachunek, and Darius Kasparitis need to go as well. I'd say the Rangers should also invest in picking up a second line center, but with spots pretty much given to Nylander, Cullen, and Betts next year. They can either put Cullen in as a winger to give them the flexibility to either give a youngster a shot (imagine that) or sign a center.

I understand this is a pipe dream because they prob all wont fit under the cap and if some how they do, we prob wont get them all.
But how do you think this team would fair?
You can't resign both Shanny and Straka. I go with Shanny. It's wishful thinkng to think that Nylander will pick up his player option. I'd like to bring Nylander back, but it has to be within reason. Use the money you save on Straka and put it toward Chris Drury or Gomez. Bring up Dawes.
I want no part of Forsberg.
Prucha-Nylander-Jagr
Shanny-Drury/Gomez-Dawes
Cullen is your third line center or wing.

I actually put that team together in my East Side Hockey Manager game and we went to the Conf finals, believe it or not buy Forsberg got injured and it pretty much killed my playoff run.
I have a feeling Straka may just retire after this season, but he is doing great things so far he might give it one more year. I belive he said he was seriously thinking about leaving after last season.
They will resign Nylander unless he tries to command too much.
Shanahan i'm not sure on, he might be too expensive for his age next season, plus he might not want to stay here.
Pock is also someone who will probably leave if given a chance somewhere else, if i was him i'd be looking elsewhere.
I'd like to see them get rid of Kaspa and Malik
They have to go after someone and take a risk on the free agents. Center and a physical defenceman would be great.
Tyutin Roszival
Staal Ward
Baranka Rachunek/Physical FA

Him or Briere (or gasp...even Gomez). I do not think that Buffalo can afford to sign both. I still think, however that a true top-pairing defenseman is this team's true need. But Drury centering Prucha & Shanny would be great to see.
Of the top of my head I can think of the following
Brian Rafalski
Chris Phillips
Eric Brewer
Rory Fitzpatrick! lol
Jamie Heward
Vitaly Vishnevski
Brad Stuart
Roman Hamrlik
Bryan Berard
Darryl Sydor
Aaron Miller
Sheldon Souray
Andrei Markov
Janne Niinimaa
Tom Poti (playing pretty well for NYI but I still wouldn't want him back even though our defense looks a lot diff than last year, is it because of POTI?)
I also believe Sather might NOT go after Shanny and instead try and sign Ryan Smyth
from the Oilers!
I also believe Pavel Datsyuk is a UFA also. Quite a few good UFA's but I believe in 2 or 3 seasons your gonna be looking at some TRULY amazing UFA's so a lot of teams might not spend big this off-season.
Other UFA's (pretty sure they are) I wouldn't mind looking at Jay Pandolfo, Darcy Turker, Teemu Selanne, Daniel Briere, Chris Duruy, Todd Bertuzzi (Might come cheaply due what has gone on with him?), Gomez, Karyia, Forsberg, Doan, Nagy, Tkachuk, Jeff O'Neill...ect..ect..
