The selection process is such a joke.....it is supposed to be about the first half of this year....not last year....not name recognition.
Every team HAS to be represented, even if they suck. 21 total spots for 15 teams in each conference. Fans vote in the top 6.
Nashville and Atlanta....both second in their respective conferences only get 1 player each elected.....
That is how the likes of Jonathan Cheecho [GP38 G14 A15 Pts29 -9], Yanic Perrault [GP31 G14 A11 Pts25 +7], and Rick Nash [GP39 G13 A17 Pts30 -7] get selected and the likes of Paul Kariya [GP44 G14 A33 Pts47 +9] and Ilya Kovalchuk [GP46 G23 A23 Pts46 -2] ....get left off....
Jagr and Kovalchuk not on that list make me upset as a fan. Those guys are fun to watch.
Yanic plays 31 points and snags 25 points and gets to be an All Star.. what a joke.
How much say did Trotz have in picking players? How in the world does he not get Kariya on the team? Kariya has been quite possibly our best player this year and is leading the team in points. Makes you wonder if this at all affects his decision to sign back with us?
Honestly, I wouldn't doubt that Kariya expressed that he didn't want to play in the All-Star Game this season. I think there was a lot of that going on around the league leading to some of the more eye-opening omissions (Jagr, Kovalchuk, etc).
Personally, I want to see Kariya get a few days off to recoup and rest any injuries he has right now. We have a lot of hockey left to play this season...let's just hope Kariya stays healthy.
