Of course its eklund, so take it lightly.

Hey, it is a upgrade....but this fuku man could be for real, that was one hell of a first save in his NHL career.

Esche has had groin problems for the past two seasons. I'd be VERY surprised if Lombardi took a chance on Esche...

I think the only reason you can use the term 'upgrade' is because he can actually play and Cloutier can't.

How many more mid-tier, 1A, Stephane Fiset-esque goalies we going to get before we just bite the bullet and go out and trade for an elite goalie?

I thank Dave Taylor and his stupid 'We won't draft another goalie in the first round anymore because Jamie Storr was a flop' mentality for this. We wouldn't have had to wait for Dean-o to at least have someone decent in the farm system, instead of a list as long as my arm of depth/backup caliber goalies.

I'd rather we trade a Cammalleri, Tukonen, etc. in some big package for a legit top 10 goalie.

Yeah, and less than five shots later he gave up a goal, got the loss and therefore he's terrible.

(Don't you LOVE assumptions about a player's upside/downside based on twenty minutes?)

From the Ottowa Sun and Spectors:

- LA Kings GM Dean Lombardi could be gearing up to make a trade soon after losing both starting goalies, Dan Cloutier and Mathieu Garon, to injury. There’s talk that he might be interested in Philadelphia Flyers goalie Robert Esche.

Spector’s Note: Given Esche’s recent injury history, it wouldn’t make sense for Lombardi to take a chance on him. Then again, desperation can make people do strange things. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Esche would be a "perfect fit" for the Kings given their goalie injury woes but a Flyers sources claims the Kings haven’t contacted them.

I love the "perfect fit" line the best

yay, let's trade for another injury prone average goaltender, give him an extension before he plays a single game, and watch as he AND cloutier let in shot after shot from the neutral zone.

Esche is exactly what this team needs: a rebounds machine

Ha Kings are interested? Where does it say that?

On HNIC's Satelitte Hotstove last night it was mentioned that LA may look at Lalime in CHIC or Bacashiauh(?) in St.L.

IMO LA should look at a guy like Sanford in St.L. He is in the AHL as he just got back from injury, but he has been very solid in the last yr and a half in St.L behind a very shaky team. Sounds perfect.

What is Esche's contract status? If he's a UFA after this season, there's no much harm... as long as Lombardi doesn't give him an extension before he's played a single game (ugh).

This isn't really about whether this team wins or loses. It's about picking up a cheap NHL netminder who can stand between the pipes until the season's over. I really don't care who it is.

I want to see this Fuku guy in net for an entire game. I'd pass on Esche, what would it take to get Khabibulin out of Chicago or Huet out of Montreal?

If it's not about wins and loses, then why do we need to pickup a netminder. We have (2) guys (rookies) who can stand between the pipes (at least until Garon comes back).

with our defense we might as well put a trash can in front of the net and use the money to sign warren weeby? as our permanent national anthem singer!

If Garon is back in a week, then I agree that DL should stand pat. But if he's out for longer, it would be unwise to stick with two guys who are never going to be NHL starters. As poor as this season has gone, I don't like the connotation of knowingly leaving an empty net for your team to play in front of. This is still a hockey team and it's still important for them to play competitively every night.

I agree as far as playing competitively every night. I would prefer the kings wait and go with the 2 rookies until they can (possibly) claim someone off of waivers. All the other GMs know our situation. The Kings would not be dealing from a position of strength and would have to overpay.
