As far as the chemistry between Akeson and Giroux is concerned they only played one game together so I don't know if I'd call it chemistry but I know they are good buddies who train together during the offseason. I love to see him get a legit shot and it seems Murray agrees.
I read G and Akeson have known each other since they were kids... they played for the same two midget and bantam teams though in different years.

Akeson is pretty solid even though he is smallish. I think if his D was better he would already be on the team.

Him, G and V would be like a passingfest though! The D may actually get dizzy and fall over before they shot.

Why do they never call that guy up?
Akeson has what 4 goals this year in the AHL? seems like he is a pass first guy.

Yes, one could say he tries to model his game after Giroux. Will generate lots of chances but can't finish.

Just heard Vinny say it was sustained on a crosscheck during the 1st period against Nashville.

That it hurt at the time but he thought it was just a knock until after the game he realised it was a real problem.

Add Downie to the list, out 7-10 with an upper body injury.

Oh, he can finish. He scored 20 in 63 games last year. He's just a pass first guy like G which I'm sure infuriates his coaches cause when he does shoot it's a laser.

Tye McGinn has been recalled. Steve Downie has been placed on IR.

Was hoping to see Downie in Vancouver. Looks unlikely now.

I'm watching "Head Games" on Al-Jazeera America. It's an hour long production about concussions in sports and they have athletes from football, soccer, and hockey on the show. The hockey player that was featured was Keith Primeau. Really sucks to see what happened to him. Very informative show if any of you can catch it.

His return for the prior game is a possibility. A spare forward is needed for the Minnesota game, however (McGinn). Pen a letter to Santa.

So but what happens when Downie returns? It's going to be an awkward situation with Raffl playing so well with Giroux and Voracek. He definitely shouldn't get moved down to fourth line, but if he doesn't, who does?

I believe with the return of Downie and the logjam on Offense a trade will occur.

Half of the season is been played and some teams feel the need of a shake-up to righten the ship.

I'd say now is a pretty good moment to deal from a position of strength to retool the line-up.

Or if Homer is confident in what he sees, ask for a pick + prospect since the next draft is held in Philly.

more incentive to get a draft pick in return as opposed to a NHL ready player.

Something which could be a factor is that Adam Hall (fourth line) missed practice today with the flu.

Quote:
Flyers winger Steve Downie, who missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, skated at Friday's practice in Voorhees and appears ready to return to the lineup.

The Flyers play in Edmonton Saturday, starting a six-game trip that will also take them to Vancouver, Calgary, Colorado, Phoenix and New Jersey.

Downie was on the fourth line Friday, along with Chris VandeVelde and Zac Rinaldo. When he was healthy, Downie was on a productive line with Sean Couturier and Matt Read.

Scott Hartnell is now on the Couturier line.
