I thought for sure Minnesota would sign Carter Sandlak as he looked pretty good in camp. But they didn't, but he did sign a contract today!

Quote:
Ron Francis, Vice President of Hockey Operations for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with left wing Carter Sandlak on a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal will pay Sandlak $550,000 at the NHL level or $55,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level in the first year, $550,000 in the NHL or $67,500 in the AHL in the second year, and $575,000 in the NHL or $67,500 in the AHL in the third year. He will also receive a signing bonus of $110,000.
“Carter is a gritty, tough competitor who is having a good year for Plymouth in the Ontario Hockey League,” said Francis. “He’s got an edge to his game and the work ethic to be a good pro.”

Kanzig is the most physically dominant defenceman I've seen come through major junior in a few years. Just an absolute monster, who is mean, tough and a decent defender, as well.

Chris Breen is 6'7", Keegan Kanzig is 6'6". Combined, they weigh almost 500 pounds.

If they ever line up on the blueline together, you best have your big boy pants on going into their zone.

Oilers sign Mitch Moroz
Quote:
General Manager Craig MacTavish announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with Edmonton Oil Kings forward Mitchell Moroz on a three-year entry level contract.

Moroz, 19, is tied for the team lead in goals (21) and has recorded 34 points (21G, 13A), 87 penalty minutes, and a plus 14 rating in 34 games this season with the Oil Kings.
Quote:
The Oilers selected Moroz in the 2nd round, 32nd overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.
http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|EDM|home

Tambellini took a lot of heat for taking Moroz so high, ahead of more highly-regarded prospects like Collberg, Finn and Kerdiles, for instance - but Moroz has looked good this year, leading the Oil Kings in goals, being a point-per-game player and continuing to be a dominant physical presence. Hopefully he continues to develop, as a power forward who can score and fight is exactly what the Oilers need.
