I don't think anyone is saying Skjei was Jake Trouba out there but his skating was just as dominant with the increase in competition, he took the body when the opportunity presented itself, was solid positionally, and made some good passes.

Ryan McDonagh was not the "Ryan McDonagh" we've all come to know and love in his WJC appearance. It's a projection game, and Skjei looks to be developing well if not "spectacularly".

McDonagh wasn't truly dominant at the NCAA level, either. His best hockey has come at the NHL level. Even in Hartford, he was solid but unspectacular. Some guys thrive on competition and perform better at each level. That's why it's so hard to make perfect comparisons on development paths of different players.

Did Norway field their Special Olympics teams? It looked like they never played hockey before.

I remember making fun of a stickless McDonagh making a hopeless dive at John Tavares in the WJC a few years ago

It's weird to think that McDonagh is one of the best guys in the world to stick on Tavares now.

Can't believe I'm up on a Saturday for this game. Skjei better get a hat trick.

Skeji having a meh period so far. Made a few mistakes, looks tentative at times.

Skeji got some PK time, made a good play to clear it. He's joined the rush a few times. He has settled in a little more this period, and looks more calm in his own zone.

Skeji was on the PK for Slovakia's PP goal. He was losing his position a bit drifting over towards the other defensemen's area below the circles. The rebound comes out to the middle in front of the goalie, at Brady's skates, his man gets to it first and rips it in.

McDavid is a really good kid. Reminds me of Crosby's personality when he was coming up. Very humble. Special player.

Why, did he suddenly break down and start crying when the ref refused to call a penalty on the opposing squad?

No offense to some of our Canadian posters, but every year I forget how hilarious the WJC Canada GDTs are.

When has Crosby EVER been a humble kid?

Or is it one of those "he's a good ole Canadian hockey player so he'e automatically a humble special kid"?

About as hilarious as the actual game is right now. Ridiculous.

That was a great game between Canada and the Czechs.

As much as I NEVER root for Canada, I can't believe they lost that game.

Extremely entertaining game.

Canada just consistently disappointing. You compare the heart of all of those Czech players with a guy like Anthony Mantha and it's no wonder.

Yep, since the 2010 team Canada hasn't shown the same heart/effort. Wouldn't be shocked if they get bounced early. So much talent. Probably too much.

So Canada won't even reach the knockout round if the US beats them? Love it.

I think Canada still has to play Slovakia and I'm not sure how the points or advancement system works in this tournament but yeah it definitely doesn't look good regardless of if they beat the Czechs today or not. I think a while ago Canada's dominance as the clear cut #1 internationally in the Junior's and Men's ended. Now I just think they suffer from all the hype, especially a lot of these kids.

Watching a bit of Buchnevic.

It's second period. It's 5-1 and he has no pts, but he is definitely going Zherdev on the ice. Stick handling through 5 guys.

I like what I am seing, I rather take a Zherdev talent and hope to screw the head on right than an avg talent and hope to learn him to play.

But overall, sick hands. Not that effective.

Kindaaaaaa liked Dane Fox, wouldn't have minded signing him.

Not heart broken that we didn't.

The whole line doesn't look great. So much talent and individual skill though. I think they will click soon or later.
