Trade Dead Line

Does anybody think Sather is holding onto Ozolinsh, Kaspar & Hall/Orr because some teams will give up a pick for some of those players?

I mean Kaspar has a decent playoff history, some team has got to take a gamble on him for a 3rd and low prospect...?

Ozolinsh might net us a 4th or 5th round pick...

Maybe thats why Sather is holding onto these players and not just waiving them..??

You never know, at the deadline some strage things could happen. I'd bet somebody would be willing to give up something for at least Kaspar.

doubt that very much.. the guy makes a boatload and will be tied to whoever picks him up for more than a year, as if that wasn't enought to scare a team away, he's been scratched many times this year and we have one of the worst defensive groups in the league

Your prob right but something still tells me some GM will take a chance on him. Some teams might get hit with the injury bug...you never know. I dunno why but I still feel he's got some kinda value.

if a team takes a chance on him, they aren't going to give up anything of value

i mean come on.. the rangers have sat him for half the season, they'd be foolish to ask for anything

Hall will defintley have some value. As for Ozo, I doubt it. As for Kasper, he would have some value if this was the last year on his contract.

I agree. We wouldn't get much for him, but I can see a playoff-bound team hit by injuries giving a conditional pick or something

I think Kaspar would have value if this was the last year of his contract. But in a salary cap world - his $3 million next year makes him untradable.

Hall has some value. He is good defensively, and has some offensive skills (unfortunately he does a good job hiding them). And he doesn't have much heart. But I still think he has some value. Definitely worth a 4th round pick? Perhaps a 3rd?

Orr also has some value. Small contract, and he fills his role as aggressor and enforcer. (...I mentally review my video tapes of his play...) Eh... I suppose he fills a role for a team that is mostly soft. Must be another team like the Rangers who would value Orr. Personally, I don't think they should trade him.

Ozo - as someone said - forget about it. He was already waived.

I think for Hall and Orr - it means finding the right team who has the need. Sure, Buffalo wouldn't touch either of them, but some teams might.

All wastes of roster space, so nothing back is expected. If Sather could get some picks, they'd be gifts. He would have to package most of these slugs off, and even that seems near impossible

These guys don't have any value so I don't think they'll be traded.

My question is, can players be bought out over the summer like Sather did with Holik back in 05? I was looking at the Rangers salaries for next year and it's absolutely ridiculous how much Kasparaitis and Malik are making considering what Straka just re-signed for today.

Nope. Coming out of the lockout teams could buy out any player without incurring a cap hit; the lack of the cap hit was the one time deal. Now if a team wishes to buy out a player, which they can in the offseason, they will incur a cap hit.

Dman always have value. Teams always over pay. He had gone this long there is no need to completely bury people. Another month and we could very well shed some unwanted weight in terms of contract.

The key was not getting Kozak, but, the 2nd round pick that the Rangers would later use to trade up to get Staal.
