They were a pairing but I could swear I read somewhere that Suter can play the right side.

Defense needs more Bickel imo.

Again, honestly who cares what the clowns on NHL network were saying.

Read the full selection article. McDonagh has been one of a small handful of players who were a lock through the entire process. That isn't because they want him to sit in the press box.

Well doesnt Seth Jones play on the right? Which would put Weber on the left... which would put Suter on the right

Suter plays the left for the wild. a player of his caliber probably could play the right though.

Suter plays the left side, he is with Minnesota and he did with Nashville in the past.

Suter-Brodin is their top pair.

Suter-Shattenkirk
McDonagh-Carlson
Fowler-Faulk (minutes in offensive zone)
Martin-Orpik

I like a lot what you can do with that defense. You can put Faulk or Shattenkirk with Suter and it'll probably work because Suter is good enough to compensate for those two players weaknesses. McDonagh-Carlson is a pairing that could log heavy minutes and be strong everywhere on the ice. Not to mention that the skating would be elite. Fowler with Faulk or Shattenkirk on a protected offensive pairing that gets minutes in the offensive zone could produce. I'm not a huge fan of the Martin-Orpik selections but they could definitely be useful in limited minutes.

Seth Jones plays the left side when he plays with Weber, which is only about 43% of his ice time.

Just to add to the obvious issues with Orpik, no Ryan, Yandle, etc..

How about Howard? He hasn't had a good year, and who knows how Quick will come back. US went from having strong goaltending to questionable. I would have much rather seen Bishop or Schneider over Quick or Howard, simply to get them some more experience in international play for 2018.

I feel like there was a lot of hometown bias in some of these picks.

the reason they arent there is because they have little/poor international/playoff experience. dont ask how they are supposed to get international experience USA didnt think of that.

I know USA hockey's supposed reasoning (lack of international/playoff experience), but in the beginning of the season, they said that how players played in the first half of this season would play a factor in selection. Obviously that was just a line of bs. Like I said, this is definitely Miller's last olympics. Quick is questionable, he likely won't even have a month of play under his belt coming back from a groin injury (serious for a goalie) and Howard has not been very good at all this year.

Bishop has been ridiculous and should have at least been considered for the third goalie, at least over Howard.

I definitely have no problems with Stepan and MacTruck getting onto the roster. Cally, though..

Yeah, he's been there before. He knows what it demands from a player, but still, the guy has been battling the injury bug this season. They should have went with someone else.

i dont disagree just stating USA's reasoning. not the best players but the right players. thats BS. Orpik should be nowhere near this team. and what does wheeler bring that Ryan doesnt? Orpik is only there to be paired with Martin because of the coach and i cant Wheeler i guess because he and Stepan had chemistry before. terrible reasoning by USA. oh well go America.

Line of Brown-Backes-Cally will physically dominate every team that isn't Canada

No its not.

Stephan doesn't belong regardless of position. Go with a different center if that is your need, but its a mistake.

This. He's been great this year on a terrible team. And he was great in 2010.

Also, Gibson outplayed Bishop in the WC last year.

Ryan Miller deserves the starter position over Quick.

Definitely a Vezina Finalist this year.

I don't agree with his opinion either but you acting like a better fan because you spelled someone's name correctly makes you look stupid. My iphone used to correct Stepan all the time until I changed it. It's an honest mistake, chill the **** out.

Did they make the Olympic ice larger this time around compared to when Canada and USA were in the finals 4 years ago?
