Hes played better, i suppose. But 11 points and a minus 15 at the halfway point aint great.

21 minutes on ice a game. I dont think theyd trade him if he didnt have that huge deal.

Nice thing about it is its backloaded - goes down to 3 a year at the end so if he stinks, still, he'll be tradeable for a team looking to hit the cap floor.

That's not far off...definitely a 1st, and a quality prospect. Khoklachev would definitely fit the bill.

Rangers in Toronto tomorrow. Expect Del Zotto's agents (Newport) to meet with NYR's brass to discuss Rangers continued efforts to trade him.
Someone build a time machine and let's go back and trade him for JVR. His value had to have been greater than Schenn's back then.

Yeah, I think that's the basic structure the Rangers will likely try to get for Girardi.

Youngish 2nd/3rd pair D + Offensive prospect + 1st or 2nd.

Obviously the values of each would decrease or increase based on the quality of the other.

Is Spooner essentially untouchable? Not sure how the Rangers would value Khokhlachev.

i'd like to get Fraser from Boston. Power Forward who likes to hit and skates well and has a good shot.

I'm bored this morning so how would this shake down as a blockbuster. Works under cap geek. Does Nash have a no trade clause?

To NYR: Bobby Ryan and Mika Zibanejad

To Ottawa: Rick Nash, Michael Del Zotto, Dominic Moore

Lines which I'm sure will be juggled and could be a probability problem on the SATs

Zibanejad Stepan. Ryan
Kreider. Brassard. Zuccarello
Callahan. Richards. Hagelin
Pouliot. Boyle. Dorsett

Pairings

McD Girardi
Staal. Stralman
Moore Falk/Allen

Spooner imo is untouchable. The way this kid plays reminds Bruins fans of Marc Savard with speed.

Me personally, Spooner reminds me of a Ribeiro type minus the diving and whining.

Either way, I don't think the Bruins are interested in dealing him.

Khoklachev is a very skilled, quick skater and plays a grittier game than most Russians. Unfortunately for him, the depth at Centre in Boston probably won't allow for him to play that postion with the big club.

yeah thats why ladds making 4-4.5m and a 30g scorer a year.. thats why big buf has over 50+ pts and plays d to boot the past few years.. thats why veersteeg is back on the squad..

they had to choose kane toews keith seabrook sharp hosa over them.. and had the depth to bring in..

they didn't want to let them walk

Getting a cup-team is not digital / binar or whatever. Its not a 1 or 0.

Are we more likely to win a cup by signing them, that if anything is a legit question.
Actually, Ola, respectfully - you need to think that thinking through.

I think everyone has agreed that this team is not winning the cup with:
A) the current squad this year;
B) the current squad plus whatever tweaks they make, plus Girardi and Callahan on major UFA contracts over the next couple of years; or
C) the current squad plus whatever tweaks they make, with Girardi and Callahan signing major UFA contracts elsewhere over the next couple of years.

Ergo, your most logical choice is to trade them to get the best possible return and look to build a roster that CAN compete in the next couple of years. It IS that digital.

Now, we all agree that you're not going to get sure-fire superstars in return for the assets we have to offer, especially in a cap league. But since this team will never be willing to go full-on firesale (including Lundqvist) and tank for a top five pick, your next best option is to accumulate as many lottery tickets as possible. Maybe you get lucky and draft another Corey Perry with one of those picks in the 20s. Maybe one of the prospects you acquire turns out to be another McDonagh. Your odds of that happening are SIGNIFICANTLY better if you deal guys who you know aren't going to put you over the top for 2-3 pieces each that might. Best case, several of those guys pan out as top line/top pair players. Worst case, you've got a boatload of midlevel guys that you can use to make another Nash trade - while still retaining depth.

Any other route, and you're just guaranteeing mediocrity until Hank retires.

Same situation the rangers are in. They have to choose, moving forward, who is part of their core that will lead them to winning in the new NHL that is based on offense and speed and skill.

Joe Morrow is the type of prospect I would want if the Rangers are cutting ties with Girardi/Callahan.

Not straight up of course.

As the year moves on we will see that Girardi has much more value than Callahan, I think. And that there are no suitable replacements for him if he's moved.

we're talking about 2 players not 10+ guys..All those guys were signed long term or over with their bridge deals and 23-25yrs old and it was time for a long term deal..

richards will be bought out..

I only see

MDZ
Brassard

being traded by deadline.. and they shouldn't unless we get players with upside back

Hagelin
MZA
J. Moore

for the right deal

then..

D. Moore
Pouliot
Stralman
Boyle

should all be moved then

we're not up against the cap next year not even close! over paying a player by $1m or 500k isn't going to make or break us..

Brown is making almost 6m/yr and has put up same if not less pts then cally has in way less games.. should he be traded then bc hes older and plays a similar hard nose game and gets hurt every year and misses time??

i love coming on here to see the comments, but all you guys look at glasses half empty why would you get rid of guys in the prime of their careers? and we dont know where negotiations are with these players.. just bc of bs reports out there? everything is fabricated half the time.. its called journalism..

every team beats every team on any given night.. constancy sets apart the good team/average teams to the great teams.. Chicago just lost to the islanders last night..

He's having a good season in the A. Just always concerned about a guy who has been traded twice, and would be three if we acquired him, before even making the NHL.

So Ola basically wants to keep the same team, the same core-that has led us nowhere in their many years in NY. Just pay them all more money as they get older.

Brilliant plan.

If you overpay someone, make sure they can dominate and carry a team. Callahan and Girardi are not those types of players.

Fair enough. Although he was a desired piece in a deadline deal and a blockbuster. So it's not like they were prospect for prospect change of scenery trades.

Morrow is a decent prospect. He reminds me an awful lot of John Moore. Great speed, can be dynamic with the puck on his stick, and has a rifle from the blue line. I'd give the edge in vision to Morrow as I think he has the ability to potentially run a PP, but the edge in physicality goes to Moore.

As a piece in a Girardi trade I wouldn't hate it but IMO he's not the truly dynamic puck mover that we lack.

What are people's thoughts on Ryan Murphy from carolina? Do people feel he could be that dynamic OFD? He's a RD too IRC.

Well, I guess Zipay was right. Konopka got taken by literally the first team in the waiver order... the Buffalo Sabres.

Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if a playoff team trades for him in a couple of months as a depth player who can add some grit and help on face-offs for the playoffs. 4th or 5th round pick for nothing more than a little bit of money while he is on your team.
