I would argue the opposite, to a degree.

As of today (updated January 3) Pittsburgh has lost 234 man games to injury/suspension this year, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the second most lost team, the Ducks, at 202.

Crosby has certainly taken this team on his back. He is involved in almost 50% of all goals scored by the Pens and they are 5th in the NHL in scoring.

But the Pens have lost 2/3 of their team for the entire year, and STILL are number 1 in the conference standings somehow.

They are holding it together with duct tape and prayers, but that they keep winning speaks to layers of depth coming through to at least not completely fall apart, which by all rights they should have.

They should be competing for a lottery pick rather than the President's trophy. Props to Crosby for that, but props to the slugs they have filling roles and coming through as well.
