I counted 48 contracts on cap-geek, I could be wrong though. Also, I don't think the contracts of Drouin and Koekkoek count yet since we haven't burned one of the years off them.

Are there any notable college UFAs this season?

I am following this thread regulary:
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...004723&page=16

Theere does not seem to be a DeKeyser this season at least comparing the talk in this thread to last year.
I just follow this thread and know nothing more about those players, except maybe stats. The best this year seems to be Greg Carey, but I doubt we will go after him, because he would just be the next unersized high skilled forward.

Trevor van Riemsdyk is one of the more interesting defenders, though I could see him wanting to Toronto for obvious reasons.

The one I hope SY goes after is 20 year old Finn Ahti Oksanen. Is a big bodied (6'3) sophomore defender with 12p in 17 games. Could be a really interesting guy, but again I don't knoe more about him than the stats.

Patrick Brown could also be interesting. 7p in 18 games as a senior forward is not much, but he is according to the thread a very good leader and a real shutdown threat

I believe we have 2 contracts available, having two openings allows flexibility if we decide to make some trades. Not sure we'd be in for any college FA this year we're pretty solid with prospect depth now. If we keep playing 11/7 picking up a forward makes no sense, rather play Crombeen and hope we improve in the circle.

Our farm team in Syracuse could be better and filled out by NCAA prospects

Haven't looked through the entire thread, but noticed Girardi is an impending UFA. He'd be an ideal signing/trade candidate for me as he blocks a ton of shots, has a physical edge and is a good shutdown defenseman, offering a bit of offense too.

Our farm team can be better if we were healthy too. We were fine at the beginning of the year with Kucherov, Brown and Cote down there with a healthy Namestnikov.

I like our NCAA pickups the last two years but you can't rely on that as how to build a farm team. Plus with contract limits you really can't get more then one a year so we can't just change the roster right away. We also have several of our own NCAA prospects who'll be turning pro soon and are gonna need a spot for them.

He's a less than ideal fit but definitely fills a need. Depends on the cost IMO

If he's paired with a mobile player(Carle or Hedman) then I can definitely see him working out.

Yeah, I agree. He's a good guy to pair with one of the more mobile guys. I like Girardi.

Funny how defenders looked bad here suddenly look good, and ones that looked good before now look bad with the arrival of one person to the staff in NY.

Fair enough, I respect your opinion and see what you mean, but I meant Girardi is an ideal fit in comparison to other defensemen who could potentially be available. For example, Pietrangelo is THE ideal fit and dream scenario to add to our team, but would never be traded.

Agreed. Though I wouldn't consider Girardi slow by any means, but he'd be even more effective playing alongside a more mobile, offensive minded defenseman for sure.

Depending on how much the Flames are going to blow it up, I would ****ing LOVE Gio on this team. We'd have to pay, but as long as Drouin, Kuch, and Vasi aren't the pieces moving the other way, I'd pay the price.

Everything I've seen says they're planning to build around him.

Just wanted to come here and say, if you'd have a use for a guy like Edler and would wanna throw a reasonable offer for him, I created this value-gauging thread on which I'm holding a tight leash (so there's minimum trolling), feel free to check it out. Thanks.

Didn't Yotes fans already accept our offer of Panik for Stone in the summer? I thought management read these boards and would get that deal done. What's the hold up?

Lol yeah that is true, but if I'm cherry picking I'd go after Weber I just think that if we are going to trade for somebody, it needs to be a top pairing guy. It would be worth the additional costs, because it pushes Carle, Salo, and Gudas down a notch and not just Sustr and Brewer.

I remember that and I think it was Stone+2nd for Connolly. That would have been perfect trade. Stone is big and physical, defensively sound, quick, right handed, and has a heavy shot. Weber lite IMO.

In regards to Brian Rafalski signing with Florida of the ECHL, and Tampa Bay possibly having interest, they do not have interest

I was looking at our defenseman's stats.

And offensively (other than HedMonster) its not looking good.
With our Forwards looking good, Stamkos coming back and super solid play by Bishop.
I would say this is where we lack (just one guy ... a top Defenseman).

The question is do you think Steve Y is trying hard to nail a top
Paring Defenseman with some Offense to him before the deadline?

Is there any available even? which guys would that be?

I know they don't grow on trees. But at this point I'm willing
to over pay for one. (I mean really over pay, we have a lot of stuff to work with)

When I see Duncan, PK and Karlsson out there, I think wow if we had another guy like that to share the ice time with Hedman, we would be set. Btw I know those guys are not available.

You'll never find one, even to overpay. They're just too valuable to the teams they're with and nobody is really in cap hell at the moment. Looking for someone to play in the top four, but not completely necessary and he wants it to be someone who will likely be under 33 and can stick around a few years.

hey, don't rope me into this by moving my post from around hockey. I wasn't suggesting anything about him becoming a Lightning.
