Either way...Souray shooting has become quite the spectacle around the league, whether were at home or on the road, whenever Souray winds up for a shot, you hear the fans in the stands hold they're breath in horror or at the Bell center, they hold they're breath in anticipation of another goal

I doubt anyone gets over 105mph the way they do it. Although I do agree that Souray's shot seems heavier than it was a few years back. Like I said though, I don't think we're going to see upwards of 105. The sticks might be better, but those guys were going all out a few years back and 102 was the best they could do.
105.2 mph Al Iafrate 1993
102.7 mph Al Iafrate 1994
102.2 mph Sheldon Souray, Adrian Aucoin 2004

oops, missing the 2006 all-star

Edit: wait a minute, there was no 2006 all-star game

Actually, last year Chris Pronger did 103 and I'm also pretty sure a player did 106 this year. I can't remember who though.

Actually, it was Chad Freaking Kilger who did it.

I just found this thread:

Thanks, I knew I remembered Iafrate getting 105.

I think Iafrate got 95+ in his sandals in the TSN studio last year as well. That was amazing.

Wow, I guess I was wrong. I knew Kilger had a heavy shot, but 106 wow.

Actually now that I think about it, I think there was a thread about a guy in the AHL getting over 105.

I think the best evidence of his shot power was last night when his shot broke the defenseman's stick.

Kilger had one over 106 earlier this year in a competition, I think thats the new record. Souray I think will be between 100 and 105 probably 103.

I think it has a bit to do with luck.

I'd say under 100 mph, like 99.7 mph. I hate those low-mounted radars, it doesn't look at actual velocity when a shot goes higher.

He beat Chara last time, who I think missed the net on one occasion.

I think Souray will choke this year, he'll have a shot at 102+ and then he'll have a weaker shot like he did last time.

I don't think he'll retain the "crown" (Even though Aucoin was the official winner cuz his 2nd shot was better than Sourays....)

Yup Kilger at 106.6 MPH, beat Iafrate's 105.2 record.

I don't know why people are saying Kilger broke the record, because I'm pretty sure the NHL doesn't count the individual teams' skills competition due to teams "tinkering" with results to butter up their players. I'm not saying Kilger doesn't have a hard shot because I'm sure he does, but I don't think you can officially declare Iafrate's record broken either.

At least, not until Souray shows his stuff at the skills comp...

'Hard' isn't really accurate. It's just way of saying goalies have a hell of a time with it. It has to do with HOW you hit the puck, not out fast. Souray has an ability to get a spin on the puck, with such torque, that it's nearly impossible for goalies to control the rebound.

Frankly, I don't see any reason why Souray can't beat Kilger's 'record.' He had nearly 104 last time, and I swear that he didn't get as much on it as he could have. I've seen him hit pucks better then that.

well you just have said it right. Kilger looked to me, someone with a nice shot. But 106.6mph....MMMMMMM, fishy.
Well I guess Sourey will have to put all to rest with what I predict....107mph

I doubt anyone gets over 105mph the way they do it. Although I do agree that Souray's shot seems heavier than it was a few years back. Like I said though, I don't think we're going to see upwards of 105. The sticks might be better, but those guys were going all out a few years back and 102 was the best they could do.
there were alot of heavy shots that year where iafrate got 105.

I kinda wonder if they had calibrating issues with the radar that year.
