I wish we could see Nigel back up in the Show, taking the place of any number of stiffs currently in our lineup each night.

EDIT: Hartford trailing 2-1 after one period. Dawes from Girardi. Montoya in net (2GA on 10S).

Montoya. 3 Goals on 17 shots...the first period though it didnt sound like the pack even came to play, it was pretty much all Portland. They are playing better now though.

Lampman is looking good. Its a shame this kid have been injured so much in his career. He is really smart, and solves allot of tricky situations real easy. He is a good passer, and can drive the puck out of his own end. Just have allot of hockey smarts. Dawes have defenitly picked up his game from early in the season. Korpikoski stands out with his hustle, good on the PK and driving to the net. He plays well, really well actually, though not really creating many hot scoring chances.

Montoya have been ok. The goals have either been all traffic or point blanc shots.

HFD are kind of playing Portlands game at times. If they do that Portland have more lbs and more grit. They need to be smarter.

Portland with a goal after three straight from HFD. 5-4 Pack. A wild one. Nice drive to the net by Korpikoski but no goal on the nice effort. If he keeps doing that, they'll start going in at some point.

Pack with the comeback win and Montoya wins 8 of his last 9 games. Dawes has also lost the rust that he had when he returned to the Pack and has 8G 7A 15P in his last 12 games.

A sure sign that we're all getting more and more frustrated with the lack of youth on the big squad: more and more HFD gameday threads.

Liffiton looks like he have regressed. He came in as a 20 y/o with a edge and smooth skating. Moved well laterally for a guy with his size. Though he didn't really play well, but with his raw tools I hoped that he might improve his overall game.

Now he have kind of lost that little mobility he had. At the AHL level, compared to many D's on other teams, he is a pretty solid depth guy, no doubt, but I don't see him making it to the NHL.

On Girardi, he plays a good hockey game. I have never really become a fan of him though. With Lampman you got that great poise with the puck at the AHL level. With Pck you got his really good offensive tools. Though with Girardi, you got no aspects like that, just always a solid 60 minutes.

Not beeing a great passer in the NHL today basically makes you a liability. Before some teams didn't even want their D's to pass the puck, like Anaheim and Calgary. Now a pass out of your own end that don't reach a teammate will result in a scoring chance against. If you aren't a good playing D, I think you really must stand out in other aspects to be attractive at the NHL level.

At the same time, Kaspar for example aren't dooing any of that. Pck when struggling is allot worse then a Girardi who struggles.

In the end though, I think I would like to see Lampman get a real shot. Its like, if we had one of Kaspar and Pck right now, I am sure Renney would try both Girardi and Lampman allot more. But when we have both, he don't look past them.

The problem with Bruce Lampman is that while he got a pretty good skill level, he is a swift skater, decent along the boards and 1 on 1, a good passer and have a decent shot, just a solid 2-way D, its his poise that really stands out, and when he have been given a chance in the NHL he have always been hit by the big shiver. Thats kind of a anticlimax. Though if he somehow could survive his first 5 games in the NHL, I wonder if he wouldn't be the best fit next to Rachunek in this org.
